"Militant Atheism"

The article has a bit of sarcasm and bias putting that in quotes. If it offends atheists to not have that in quotes, then we could remove the phrase entirely. I think we could all agree that the anti-religious attitude in the Soviet Union was very militant. It's like saying Nazi Germany had much "militant antisemitism." Doesn't that seem a little bias with that in quotes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.234.178.159 (talk) 00:35, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I restored the link to militant atheism. I no longer has quotes around it, so there is no danger of "sarcasm", as mentioned above. Also, since it does in fact have its own article in this encyclopedia it can hardly be considered uncencyclopedic. MishaPan (talk) 15:26, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
It's difficult to imagine how one could object to the use of "militant atheists" to describe an avowedly atheistic government, with a military that lined up believers and shot them... and a lot worse. The term can also be documented in any of a number of historical works that would qualify as reliable sources. Off the top of my head, "The Orthodox Church" by Timothy Ware has a whole chapter on the subject. Frjohnwhiteford (talk) 11:41, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
