A family story I was raised with is in agreement with the theorized naming of the town, i.e. that when Nicholas Newlin (known as Newland before emigration) came to the US he was granted the land by William Penn and named it Newlin Township.

I was not sure if this was justification for removing the clause ("most likely") on the last paragraph, which is why I'm putting it up for discussion.
