Chairmen of the Inland Revenue
[edit]Montagu was not the last chairman. The quoted source says, "Sir Nicholas Montagu, who chaired the Inland Revenue between 1997 and 2004 before its merger with Customs and Excise." This is correct, but he was not the last chairman. Montagu resigned in 2004. David Varney was then appointed Chairman of Inland Revenue from September 2004, until the creation of HM Revenue and Customs ("the merger") in April 2005.
