Demographics controversy

Recent edits by Mahattan Stone & co.

Recent edits by Mahattan Stone (talk · contribs) have been reverted because he does not provide reliable sources. Instead, when asked to do so, this user has uploaded a fake and edited ethnolinguistic map. Subsequently, this user has reinstated his own version of the census data without providing a source. In another attempt, this user mentioned the CIA Factbook as a source while fully aware that this source does not support his edits. Stop the disruptive edits, please! — mark 12:22, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Recent edits by Ashe Black (talk · contribs), most probably the same person as Mahattan Stone, have been reverted for exactly the same reason. — mark 15:55, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Satellite Picture of Nigeria 2006!!! (1)

The look satellite picture show the picture of Nigeria cities, and far away from the population of some of the cities that have been claim...

See link nigeriaone.com/satellitepicture.html See Satellite Imagine to compare cities of each group which show how far apart in population. ]. and also see Nigpost.com officail website of the Nigeria postal service show the information.. Nigeria govt launch a satellite NigeriaSat to take picture of Nigeria cities.. 2005 so all inform are based on data and figure collected..

For non Nigerian, this is how I can help you to understand the picture..

Yoruba cities are Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Abeokuta, Akure, Ondo, Osogbo.

Hausa cities are Kano, kaduna, Bauchi, kastina, Daura, Gombe, MAlafashi, fuatua, Kaura nomada this are the major cities

Igbo cities are Enugu, Onitsha, Aba, Owerri

Abuja is a no man land , form from an empty land in 1976 by the govt.. some please look at the satellite imigine and judge the population of Nigeria and also check the Nigpost website to compare state and number of town and villages in each state..

Yoruba state are Lagos, Oyo, osun, ondo, Ekiti, kwara, ogun and western part of kogi state..

Igbo state are imo, abia, enugu, anambra, ebonyi.. and north part of Delta state 7 local council of the 27 in delta state.

Hausa state are Bauchi, gombe, kano, jigawa, sokoto, zamfara, kebbi.. Kastina, and north part of kaduna(ZAria area)

Please do a google search for the name herold smith, the man behind how britain manipulated Nigeria census figure to favour the north.. Please note the hausa military have ruled for 40 years so they manipulated the census in thier poeple favour..

Please compare satellite imagine and data, and judge for your self,

thank you reading.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahattan Stone (talkcontribs)

just found out dat nigeriaone.com/satellite/lagosmt.jpg] is from nigeriaone.com.which is none other than..................wait 4 it..............moo.amy u really need 2 stop. Adaobi (t c) 09:31, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I do not know what you are talking about, but , that still does not remove the fact that you posted incorrect information on Nigeria.. how on earth are the igbo 18 % and the hausa 29% even last fake census put the igbo at about 13 %.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahattan Stone (talkcontribs)

yes u do know what am talkin' bout.d values i put there, were d cia values,4gotten wat d original 1s were (since u guys hav changed em so many times).btw, yorubas arent d biggest tribe n u know it.stop tryin' 2 big up ur tribe.it aint necessary Adaobi (t c) 18:29, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

so you want to talk of population now.. In the last census , your tribal the Igbo , only had 10.4 million people... the total popualtion was said to be 88.5 million.. if you find out the percentage , it gives the igbo just 111.99%.. Where did you get 18%.. Igbo cover only 2% of nigeria land space...

Adaobi.. you may have lost touch with Nigeria... If not.. Check http://www.Nigpost.com it gives t you the villages , town and cities in Nigeria.. Please count how many villages are in Yoruba land and compare with the Igbo , and also compare with the hausa and look at the satellite image.. even USA satellite image of Nigeria , prove my point.. or here is a links that also show you the number of villages and town and cities in nigeria which is a compare of nigpost one..if find it here is a copy for you.. nigeriaone.com/smf/index.php?board=22.0 it shows you the villages , towns and cities in nigeria compare themm=. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahattan Stone (talkcontribs)

And from this information provider by an agency of the Federal govt of Nigeria.. Nigpost , which have done a research on the issue, carried under the leadership of the Former post master General , and Hausa/fulani Alhaji Arugugu(late ) Who was lost in last year air crash, may his soul rest in prefect peace.., One of the Kind.. And please note, I are not interested in the break up of NIgeria.. I am only interested in bring the factb and figure out, instead of guess work you have posted, which you can not back up with fact.. Do you have any statistics to show for your claim, I am given you statistics, and for the last time, do not modify my post... if you have no stat to defend your incorrect figure.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahattan Stone (talkcontribs)

Hi, CIA page , Nigeria debt is $35Billion,, that is not true. It is $0. Nigeria paid all.. CIA report says AD charmain is Moji akinseyiwa, That is not also true.. I have seen that page for nearly 10 years now.. they only change name of rule.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahattan Stone (talkcontribs)

Regardless of Nigeria's demographics, this picture constitutes original research. The only way to include information in Wikipedia and get it to stay is to cite sources, and reliable ones at that (the links go to relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines). I have removed the picture.
And a note to all: please sign your posts on talk pages. Registering an account also helps people to understand who is saying what and why. Thanks, — mark 17:45, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

What is cite source, we map the locations from google earth.. usin g longtitude and latitude ,so put it back.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashe Black (talkcontribs)

Please read Wikipedia:Cite your sources to find out what that is. Composing an image of satellite picture to make some point about relative demographics is certainly original research, which Wikipedia cannot and will not publish. That is why I think the picture should not be put back. And please remember to sign your posts on talk pages. Thanks! — mark 20:41, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Then it is not Original Research, Since it is not, since i stated the origin of the source.. It would be put back.. thank you for help me see that point. you are a great help mark. thank again.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashe Black (talkcontribs)

(Please sign your posts on talk pages). You are not just including a satellite picture to illustrate some geographical feature. To the contrary, you are making a point about something wholly different, namely demographics, on the basis of a collage of pictures. I'm sorry, but that is original research. To say something about the demographics of Nigeria in this article, you will have to cite reliable sources that specifically treat the demographics of Nigeria, and satellite pictures do not. Therefore, the picture will not be put back. — mark 07:25, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Ethnic Group Controversy

If you contribute to this Nigeria Article what is your opinion on the Nigerian demographics?

  • Is it necessary to add a link to [nigeriaone.com] which is the replacement of the controversial link to [mooo.com] that got amy333 and her aliases banned.
  • What can be done about amy333 aliases constantly adding spam to the Nigeria article? Check out the following link: Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Amy333
  • Are the Fulani and Hausa Ethnic groups individually larger than the Yoruba ethnic group or are they larger than the Yoruba ethnic group when Hausa and Fulani are combined?
  • On the first two points: four more links have been added to the site-wide spam blacklist to stop the spamming, and accounts that are created solely to promote these websites and to threaten users will be blocked immediately.
  • On the second point: see Talk:Yoruba for a similar discussion and a few sourced estimates. — mark 17:47, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Satellite Picture of Nigeria 2006!!! (0)

Now, Remove http://www.Nigeriaone from Blacklist please, why rival website are using wiki to block it.. Which I consider not fair. The issue been discuss is nigeria census figure, which like many thing in NIgeria have been fraud.. Do Wiki support fraud to continue..? Do you want a Civil war in Nigeria? and i was point satellite imagine to show my point, and you just block me, because, you want the fraud census figure to continue.... check the picture, Lagos with more population is said to have the same population with Kano which is 4 times small than lagos .. You you want that to continue.. Remove the block,, Day001, is the owner of a nigeria website which is not doing well at the moment.. So he believe wiki is the one making nigeriaone.com popular, but that is not true.. they are a big computer, that owns a location television program on nigeria television running a newtwork serice called NTA soon.. so they are already popular. If DAy001, would work on his website , more people may come thier, than waste more time on wiki.. go and work on your site.. put your energy into go use.

This is not about rival websites or census frauds, it is simply about attempts to spam and to circumvert the site-wide spam blacklist. Stop doing it, it does not help your case. — mark 17:48, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Mark Spam,, you make me laugh, spam from where, your nigeria page with less than 1000 visitor per day.. that funny, I hope you are joking... less than 100 people visit this page a day.. Show stat, I am only trying to make a point on census.. And how far the issue it.. but it look like you people are not interested.. Day001 own a website, i delete from site .. How does putting a picture spam.. Bye..

As noted by others, many links at nigeriaone.com are just links to the blacklisted domain nigeria.mooo.com. This is circumverting the blacklist and therefore they have been added to the blacklist too.
And on the point you are making about the census: the point is that Wikipedia will not allow you, personally, to make points by carrying out and reporting your original research. Wikipedia is only a tertiary source reporting what has been published in reputable and reliable secondary sources. We do this because Wikipedia has to stay verifiable. Imagine if you had just made something up; how can we distinguish between that and between the image you have made? The answer is that we cannot, and that is why the picture cannot be included. — mark 20:49, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Mark i have not made it up, just go to google earth your self and if you know the longtitude and latitude of the cities involve use them.. and you find out. then remember ti put back the picture, bye

You know what? Even if I trusted you, the whole point is that Wikipedia's policies do not allow for this, and for good reason. So I'm sorry, but I will not put back your picture. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially the ones I've been linking to here. And remember to sign your posts on talk pages. Thanks, — mark 07:17, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

REFORMS and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala!!!

I am incredibly surprised at there being not a single mention to the woman who turned Nigeria around since her appointment to the post of Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Virtually all the reforms that have taken place in Nigeria since 2003 are attributable to her, and it is absolutely incorrect to do so to the current president, especially suggesting it was he who freed Nigeria of 60% of its foreign debt - this was, again, thanks to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

I would recommend you read this article http://news.independent.co.uk/world/africa/article484987.ece.

I know it is easy to simply ask someone to add to the article, but I have had absolutely no practise in writing an article, or editing one etc. Perhaps the person who wrote the article should add this information?

Obstetric Fistula

Please give some justification for blanking obstetric fistula as a significant health issue, before you delete it next time. CuteGargoyle 06:26, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Obstetric fistula, although a serious condition, affects less than 1% of Nigerians; it may be best to move it to a separate health-related article. If every disease that affects a similar percentage of Americans were to be included in the United States article, we'll have an astronomically long article. In my opinion, insiting that rare health conditions should remain on a country's main page would be divergent from the Wikipedia goal of creating concise encyclopedic articles. Dayg1110 12:00, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for coming here to discuss the issue with me. If you want to go by the numbers, then polio has no "relevance" to the article either. "To date in 2005, Nigeria has 78 cases of polio in 18 states compared to 125 cases in 25 states at the same point in 2004," according to the WHO.[2] CuteGargoyle 21:13, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Obstetric fistula is not simply a health condition. It's a social injustice. The widespread attitude that women are unimportant or irrelevant is exactly what is at issue here. CuteGargoyle 21:13, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I have trimmed the external links section, removing all the government links except the main government site. From there, they have links to all the ministries and such sites. We need not list them all here. Also, I have reduced the number of newspaper links to four that sources tell me are the most widely read. The "Overviews" portion of the links section has two links (worldfactbook and state dept.). These two can probably be used to properly reference material in the article and be removed from the External links section. That will leave the DMOZ link as the last one, which serves the purpoes of link directory, since Wikipedia is not a link directory. -Aude (talk | contribs) 17:36, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Spam by Amy333 and sockpuppets

Amy333

Amy333 seems hellbent on spamming this article. Is there a way to monitor her edits? Some of her edits seem legit but for the most part she spams this entry with fraudlent links.

Amy333 and her aliases

I just found out that the sites that Amy and Co. keep putting up are malicious sites that try to download things to people's computers!!! Check out Abuja - History - Wikipedia. To the left, highlighted in red is geocities.com/seelagos1 which redirects to a site resembling the nigeria.mooo.com site that Amy always adds to this article. Please lets be on the lookout for Amy or any of her aliases and monitor their activity. --Dayg1110 05:40, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Dayg1110 stop the lies, Nothing was download to people site, i have read you own a rival website. so discredit your rival. No body is been redirect, check it out yourself.. may be something is wrong with you or computer..

these mooo links r driving me crazy!stop wit d nonsense.stop replacin' legit links wit it.if u guys r supoosedly helpin my/our country,then stop it.--Adaobi 03:38, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, these mooo.com subdomains are overly commercial sites and the few pictures on there are very probably copyright violations. In no way do these sites qualify as useful external links (Wikipedia:External links) so they should be removed on sight. This all is just a continuation of an earlier discussion at Talk:Lagos in which several of the spammers were blocked for making legal threats and for spamming. To stop this abuse (which has been going on for months now) I have submitted these urls to the site-wide Spam blacklist. Within a few days they will be added and it will no longer be possible to include them in articles. — mark 07:28, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Right now, these links cannot be added anymore to any articles. And here are the folks that have been blocked for attempting to do just that over the last few months. A sizable number of sockpuppets, I say! — mark 10:18, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

World Cup

There is an Underground proposal that Nigerians in Diaspora can effect rebuilding our international reputation in Footbal/Soccer by donating a minimum of $1 per person in diaspora to an NGO FUND for Scouting/developing new soccer talent. This proposal is in its nascent stages and so any information/input is recommended. Any ideas? This is not for profit.

south africa/ sud afrique is hosting the next world cup let Nigeria be the first african nation to win in our soil. any ideas?

Fulani ethnic group larger than Ibo or Ijaw?

  • Are the Hausa or the Fulani ethnic group independently larger than the Igbo or Ijaw Ethnic group?
  • Or are the Hausa and Fulani ethnic group when combined larger than the Igbo Ethnic group.
  • Certainly the Fulani ethnic group on its own is not larger than the Igbo or Ijaw ethnic group.
  • The Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups when combined are larger than the Yoruba Ethnic group.
  • Can you clarify this subject and also a cite will be helpful.
  • In the meantime I will cite the data from the reliable CIA World Factbook . "Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, is composed of more than 250 ethnic groups; the following are the most populous and politically influential: Hausa and Fulani 29%, Yoruba 21%, Igbo (Ibo) 18%, Ijaw 10%, Kanuri 4%, Ibibio 3.5%, Tiv 2.5%"
  • Notice the Hausa and Fulani are combined when reporting this data
  • Notice that there are more than 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria so I will change that also.

-Just keeping it honest.(Neutrall 08:16, 29 June 2006 (UTC))

Citing Refrences

In order to view the cited references, I will add a References level 2 headline. It is encouraged to use the wiki reference mark up below [1] when trying to cite a reliable website. (Neutrall 08:54, 29 June 2006 (UTC))

I should like to add that the best sources often are offline sources, i.e. real books from libraries. In my opinion, we should strive to make Wikipedia a compendium of all knowledge, not just of the knowledge published elsewhere on the internet. Additionally, the reliability and verifiability of many websites is unclear. — mark 11:03, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Frankly there is no current data on this ethnic issue

  • I will list reliable sources that simply and more accurately depict the major ethnic groups.
  • If there cannot be a resolve as to which is the largest ethnic group, I suggest that the ethnic groups be listed in alphabetical order.
  • On the other hand since Nigerians are all one; editors can follow the lead of the Nigerian 2006 census and omit data regarding the major ethnic groups rather than providing speculative data.
  • In my opinion; the article will not be significantly changed if the ethnic information is omitted. Since I have been following Nigerian census, the population of the Yoruba and Hausa ethnic group which is seperate from the Fulani ethnic group have been very close. (Neutrall 12:57, 1 July 2006 (UTC))

Federal ministers of Nigeria

The article Federal ministers of Nigeria can use a few editors. Feel free to contibute to the article. Tnx Neutrall 23:44, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

The new year of 2000 was brought in with the heir of Nkeiru Ugwoaba a native of Negeria currently residing in the United States.

Avoid bias in your edits

Nigeria has many ethnic groups so it is important that this article remains "politically unbiased". All new edits can be presented in a way that no one ethnic group is cast in bad light. Any controversial edits without citing reliable sources is open for reversal. (Neutrall 20:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC))

Well a bit better if it's politically unbiased (stating everything objectively) rather than politically correct (altering facts that might displease someone).

"groundnuts"

Note that the groundnut link refers to more than one plant, while "groundnuts" links to peanut. Perhaps someone knows what is meant here. David R. Ingham 04:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
