Besides being two separate structures, they're fairly far apart: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&t=k&om=1&ie=UTF8&ll=37.753153,-122.198144&spn=0.002842,0.005032 The Amtrak station is not visible there since it was recently built, but you can see the tracks, to merge them would require quite a bit of writing, if someone is willing to do a good job of that they should go ahead and try, but without being a good job I would just leave them separate. Some feedback would be appreciated --JVittes 17:08, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just feel that these two articles are too short to stand alone. Besides, combining them would let people know that they can transfer between the two services. --Will74205 21:17, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I definately understand that sentiment, the two articles did seem small, and the linking from one to another somewhat annoying, but at the same time one would have to be careful not to confuse people, I don't know how the rest of the people would feel about an article on two nearby separate structures, though it cannot be said that they have nothing to do with each other. If you can write something here maybe I can take a look at it, here is a starter, though I don't think complete. "Oakland Coliseum Amtrak/BART Station is actually two separate stations connected by a pedestrain bridge. The BART station, called the Oakland Coliseum/Airport station, was originally connected to the Oakland Coliseum, the Oakland Arena by a pedestrian bridge that went directly above the tracks used by the Capitol Corridor route, which is managed by BART. As part of CCJPA's improvements for Capitol Corridor the station was built and officially opened on May 25, 2005. The Amtrak station has direct access to the pedestrian bridge connecting it directly to the BART station. Despite being separate stations BART and CCJPA will sometimes refer to it as one station. A shuttle bus called AirBART runs from the BART station to Oakland International Airport" Something like that I suppose. A lot of information I got from:http://www.capitolcorridor.org/stations/oakland_coliseum.php --JVittes 22:10, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Needs some grammar tweaking, but sounds good. These two stations indeed are not close - over over 150m apart! That's quiet a walk. Perhaps a satellite capture from NASA or a drawing will help explain the locations of these two stations in respect to each other. Also, have you notice that the satellite image in Yahoo Map Beta seems to be newer than Google Earth/Map, where the Colliseum Station can be seen being constructed. I wonder if the State, CCJPA, or BART plans to buy the land between the two stations, to build a "proper" front for the stations, perhaps? --Will74205 20:00, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think a picture or satellite picture would be useful, I was worried about copyright restrictions on it though. The area is under current TOD plans [1], and [2], but I don't know how far they have gotten on that, I couldn't see the figures for the first one on my version of Acrobat Reader. (note the documents were written before the Amtrak station was built) I don't know what the plan is with the new people mover to OAK, maybe they'll buy up the industrial building(s) in between to get the end location between the two stations. I think the article should include a mention on the TOD (btw that is Transit Oriented Development, not Time of Death), and the planned people mover, and of course a link to AirBART. --JVittes 20:56, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Added Header, here is another source for the TOD [3]. --JVittes 21:13, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
All looks good, so I guess it's agreed that these two articles should be merged, but under what title? Should we merge one into another or start a new article? --Will74205 01:57, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking of Oakland Coliseum Amtrak/BART Station, Oakland Coliseum Station, or Oakland Coliseum Intermodal Station. --JVittes 12:25, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"Oakland Coliseum Amtrak/BART Station" seems to be better, and I believe that name is used by CCJPA. --Will74205 20:04, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok there is the stub, from now on let's have the at the new discussion page there Oakland Coliseum Amtrak/BART Station. --JVittes 04:12, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
