Split[edit]

This page and Ordinary Seaman (rank) were split from Ordinary Seaman. Haus42 14:55, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrote, advanced to start-class, and reduced to mid-importance. HausTalk 01:26, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of able seaman[edit]

Why does this article use a picture of a seaman, the description of which says he's an able seaman? TJSwoboda (talk) 23:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's a fair point. The reason was that he was doing a task that an OS would also do. The guy right behind him, in fact, is an ordinary seaman. But I did replace that photo. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of an OS lashing down containers, so that one will have to stay for awhile. Cheers. HausTalk 00:04, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Swabbing the decks?[edit]

That's an interesting way to to put it, Been working at sea for many years now and have never swabbed anything. Mopped, hosed off and sugi'ed(?) many times but never swabbed, The phrase "swabbing decks" is true enough but seems a bit old fashioned, Maybe change it for something a bit more up to date? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.197.80.136 (talk) 21:01, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
