Capitalisation
[edit]Both words in the name should be capitalised. This is a proper name for the device. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 21:11, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
References
[edit]There are loads and loads of online references to this thing, but all of them sell it! Or they are from cottages for rent which have one. Somewhere there must be a suitable reference! Fiddle Faddle (talk) 23:45, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Merge pages?
[edit]Since they are almost identical, should not this page be merged with Kitchen_maid_(pulley_airer)? --Mlevitt1 (talk) 14:09, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- Merge Kitchen Maid to here, because "Kitchen maid" is unsourced and there is no evidence that they exist or that they've ever been referred to by that name other than as a misnomer for Sheila Maid – which is at least a demonstrable brand name. Andy Dingley (talk) 14:14, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- It looks like Kitchen Maid might also be a trademark, and maybe also used generically as such (like Hoover) perhaps? (See here for instance).--Mlevitt1 (talk) 14:30, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- So "35 years" is a pretty new and obvious copy of the original Sheila Maid. Andy Dingley (talk) 14:47, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, not really worth mentioning then as you say. Maybe the company got it put up because of their trade name! But by the same toke, the Sheila Maid only came into existence in 1986: https://sheilamaid.com/pages/history. And Pulley Maid dates only from 2006 and is another trade name: http://www.pulleymaid.com/about.htm I remember my mum had a generic name for these way before that. I'm trying to recall it, but maybe as well as a merge we need a generic name for the page, perhaps with a number of the trade names for reference? --Mlevitt1 (talk) 15:54, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, I thought Sheila Maids were 1960s? In which case, do we go with a generic title? Or which is the best known? "Sheila Maid" does have the advantage of not being easily confused with "kitchen maids". Andy Dingley (talk) 00:33, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- The thing is that the object goes back to the early 19th century, whereas all these names are very recent, from the apparent resurgence in their use as "green" driers! So I think we should go with a generic title, and can say that some modern trade names include... The problem is the generic name. After much googling I cannot find one standardized one. The generic names all seem to be combinations of (overhead/ceiling) clothes/laundry airer/rack/pulley. "Maid" or "maiden" seems to have been reserved for floor standing airers (there is a page at Clothes horse, which could have a "see also" link to our page), and only used lately in all those trades names we mentioned. If this seems sensible, I will merge and make the changes...calling it a clothes airer with a list of alternatives. How does this sound? --Mlevitt1 (talk) 10:58, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think "clothes airer" does it, because there are many sorts of those, and this is specifically about the "parallel slats, lowered from the ceiling" design. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:15, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Overhead clothes airer? (I actually meant to put that) Or Ceiling clothes airer? --Mlevitt1 (talk) 11:20, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Overhead would work for me. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:45, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Completed. Would be interested in any comments, or indeed if you want to edit! --Mlevitt1 (talk) 20:05, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
- Might need to be Overhead clothes airer, owing to the capitalisation rules. Andy Dingley (talk) 09:47, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. --Mlevitt1 (talk) 15:57, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Better Picture
[edit]The picture is of a modern version quite unlike the traditional version described in the article. But since most of the modern versions are close copies of the traditional version, and not at all like the one pictured, it would be good to have a picture of a traditional one as well (or instead?). But I cannot source one (I cannot find a non-copyrighted picture, and in the country where I live I do not know of any that I might photograph myself!) Anyone can help? --Mlevitt1 (talk) 20:13, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
commercial misuse?
[edit]Isn't the posting of links to a corporate website, selling products bordering on advertisement and thus unfit for Wikipedia? The company AIRER from Singapore which is apperantly manufacturing electric clothes dryers is mentioned twice in this article, including two links to their website. Shouldn't this be removed? 94.220.139.177 (talk) 23:55, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
