Example is not an overload

[edit]

The example is more an example of deflection.Jasper Deng (talk) 03:41, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this really a good example?

[edit]

Or maybe the position is fine but the article needs to be rewritten. I was saving this position onto my iPad to use as an example for some kids I'm teaching, and the iPad immediately suggested Bxf7 following the … Re1 move. The text says "Black won immediately with 1...Re1!," but I'm not even sure that the exclamation is warranted. The iPad played it out and white won instead.

Mind you, my own ELO rating is about 12, but I'll be interested to see if anyone else has a comment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnpdevoy (talkcontribs) 00:46, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

1...Re1! definitely works, but I checked it with a chess engine just in case. 2.Bxf7+ only delays the inevitable after 2...Qxf7 3.Rd8+ Kh7 etc. Possibly this is the horizon effect at work with your ipad. MaxBrowne (talk) 06:07, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
