largest?
[edit]Look here: "The Paleontology Museum named after Yuri Orlov is reckoned among the world largest natural-science museums."
And now look here: "Today, the UCMP houses (within three northern California storage locations) the largest paleontological collection of any university in the world! And it is the second or third largest collection available in the U.S. (after the Smithsonian, and possibly the National Museum of Natural History).
How could that be and who is larger? :) --Yuriy Lapitskiy 19:09, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Both are true. The PIN is not in a university like the UCMP. Neither is it in the U.S. Sheep81 (talk) 03:33, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
The PIN is described as either one of, or the largest palaeontological collection, because it is a dedicated palaeontology collection, unlike US institutes such as the Smithsonian which are 'natural history' collections (and include specimens of extant species). The California Museum is only one of the largest collections affiliated with a university campus. Maxzpim
Name form
[edit]From what I can find the name is usually presented as the "Paleontological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences". The current title of the article here is rather awkwardly worded and I would recommend changing it to the traditional wording if possible.--Kevmin § 15:45, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- Maybe we could lists it as "Paleontological Institute," or if it needs to be disambiguated, "Paleontological Institute (Russian Academy of Sciences)." Abyssal (talk) 17:31, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
