notability[edit]

Patrice McAllister (ship, 1919) any comments of why this is notable enough ? --DBigXray 13:37, 15 June 2012 (UTC) after your reply i looked at the history both of these were started in March-April 2012 so the policies were still the same when you had started--DBigXray[reply]

  • In another discussion you referenced WP:Notability (vehicles). Vehicles are different from vessels. Vehicles are confined to roads, or railroads. Airliners follow fixed routes. Fighter fly in squadrons with basically identical planes. Vessels, on the other hand, can go anywhere. For tugboats, each voyage is likely a separate and distinct event.
The Patrice McCalister (1) sank; (2) is currently visited by recreational divers -- that is two separate reasons why the vessel merited an article of its own. If it was only a maritime disaster an argument could be made it could be adequately covered in a list of maritime disasters. If it was only visited by recreaational divers it could be described in a list of recreational dive sites.
Further, having a more recent namesake was a further factor. Having two articles helps prevent confusion. In my experience, when an article it started on the more notable namesake, and the less notable namesake is left for later, there is potential for some well meaning person to add information about the other topic. When articles are started about both namesakes at the same time it helps eliminate this kind of confusion.
As a courtesy, if you find my reply leaves you unsatisfied, I request you please do not jump immediately to a nomination for deletion, at least until the last six {{afd}}s you opened have been resolved. Geo Swan (talk) 23:28, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
