Meaning of names?[edit]

I'm wondering where the name "pearl kite" comes from? Pelagic (talk) 01:21, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

Also, there are some tantalizing hints that "Gampsonyx" might mean "vulture claw" or "crooked claw", but I haven't found a reliable translation of the Greek term. Vigors just said that he was re-using an ancient name, but didn't explain further. Pelagic (talk) 01:21, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
