[edit]In July 2008, The US Park Department of the Department of Interior announced that Penfield Reef Light would be granted to the nonprofit organization Beacon Preservation, Inc. of Ansonia, Connecticut. Citing its application as featuring a "superior program" for Penfield, the lighthouse will be conveyed at no cost to Beacon Preservation, Inc. who will restore and preserve Penfield Reef Light and utilize it for educational, cultural, and recreational purposes.
