Is Peninsula part of the township while Boston Heights is not?

[edit]

I think the answer is that neither is part of the township. They may be physically inside the township, but they are separate governmental entities. The United States Geological Survey doesn't say one way or the other, or am I missing something. Anyway the status of Ohio villages is controlled by Ohio law, not Federal. See List of villages in Ohio. The only difference I can see between the two is that Boston Heights has a small part that was once part of Northfield Center Township, Summit County, Ohio. clariosophic (talk) 20:18, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would have to agree, The Village of Hudson was geographically within Hudson Township, but politically separate. It would have been incorrect to say that the village was part of the township. Today, this is the same situation just west of Hudson. I believe the article should read "It is surrounded by Boston Township" instead of "It is a part of Boston Township." --DangApricot (talk) 22:14, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Peninsula indeed is part of the township while Boston Heights is not. See page 7 of this Census Bureau map: municipalities with solid boundaries and a little º next to their name, including Boston Heights, are outside of townships, while municipalities without a º and with dashed boundaries, such as Peninsula, are part of the townships. Yes, they're politically separate, but every Peninsula resident is a Boston Township resident. Also compare http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/files/SUB-EST2007-39.csv, the final Peninsula result: you'll notice that every year's population for "Boston township" equals the combined population of "Peninsula village" and "Balance of Boston township", but the Boston Heights village population isn't included. What's more, although I can't cite this, I should note that I live in a village that's part of a township: both the township trustees and the village councilmembers are on my ballot.
