Removal from the Rotation

Blaming Penny Ante's removal from the rotation on Season 30 has no merit. The game had been malfunctioning on and off for years; the problems did indeed get worse during Season 30, but the final straw came when it couldn't be made to work for Season 31's October 9, 2002 episode. Pick-a-Number was eventually subbed into the show that day, and that is when Penny Ante disappeared. -TPIRFanSteve 17:49, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Penny problem?

They were given three pennies....

One mistake... 1 penny gone
Two mistakes... 2 pennies gone
Three mistakes... 3 pennies gone
Four mistakes... game over

Did I miss something? "If, however, the contestant made four mistakes between the two items and ran out of pennies, the game ended."

Last Game Retired

"Penny Ante was the last game to be officially retired during Bob Barker's tenure as host; however, Hit Me, which was retired several months earlier, was played a number of times in the four and a half years between Penny Ante's final playing and ultimate retirement." This appears on the Hit Me page as well. Which is it?

Which is what? If you mean that they both claim to be the "last game retired", you are missing some of the wording:

"Penny Ante was the last game to be officially retired..."
"Hit Me was the last pricing game played to be retired..."

Note the word "played". The course of events are such:

Last game of Penny Ante played
Several other games both played and then retired
Last game of Hit Me played
Hit Me officially retired
Penny Ante officially retired (4 and a half years after it was last played).

For the 4 and a half years, it was just on hiatus, though it was "retired" for a week shortly after its last playing, and then the decision was reversed. (only to be re-retired 4 and a half years later). Several other games were retired after Penny Ante's last playing, but before it was officially retired. So you can see, Penny Ante was the last game to be "declared retired", but Hit Me was the last game played to be retired (IE: the most recently played game that is now retired). In addition, Time Is Money is currently on hiatus (since 2004), but hasn't been retired (if it DID get retired before the next season starts, it would take the "last retired" game during Barker's tenure title from Penny Ante, but Hit Me would still have been played more recently... Of course this depends on whether you consider the post-season to be retirement under Bob Barker, or Post-Barker. Either way, it doesn't matter unless it happens, which is probably unlikely. Year the color scheme changed

In the past, you may have seen the caption below the picture on the prop state that it was used from 1984-2002. It could have been that way, but the exact year for the set change is not known. Sound Effect
