This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, listed below. I will check back in seven days. If these issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far.

Images
Have asked the photographer. Donlammers (talk) 19:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As per various discussions, it seem unlikely to me that an elephant would be legally considered to be a copyright holder. If I'm wrong then this image can be easily commented out until its copyright status is clarified. For now I'm happy with it though, and I think it's worth including even if it ultimately has to be done under a fair use clause. --Malleus Fatuorum 02:39, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Lead
  • The lead needs to be expanded to more adequately summarise the article.
Working on it Donlammers (talk) 19:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done Should be good enough for a GA article. I have expanded it from the version accepted in 2006 for GA.
  • What's the source for the area occupied by the zoo?
Done Cited the zoo's own FAQ Donlammers (talk) 19:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The zoo has approximately 1,200 animals on display ...". Citation #1 says 1,300.
 Done updated numbers.
  • "It was founded by Robert Maytag, a member of the famous Maytag family." What's famous about the Maytag family?
 Done removed "famous".
I have removed the redlink. It stood out like dogs b#@ls ZooPro 00:50, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
History
  • The second paragraph needs to be cited.
 Done
  • "The zoo is also home to a large volunteer program for teenagers 13–17, known as the Zooteen program." If this is worth mentioning then need to explain what it is. Why "also home"?
Done This was moved under "Programs" and cited.
  • The last two very short one sentence paragraphs need to be integrated inyo the text, not just tagged on at the end as an afterthought.
Done The last paragraph really belonged under "Programs". Moved the Komodo Dragon sentence into the previous paragraph.
Areas and attractions
  • This is almost completely uncited.
Done Most of the narrative here could be written straight from the zoo map, though I found a few other references for some of the items (especially newer exhibits).
  • "Some of the langauage used would be more at home in a promotional brochure, such as "The Children's Trail has many animals that children as well as adults will enjoy seeing ...". Needs to be written more neutrally and formally.
Done reworded. Hopefully enough. Donlammers (talk) 17:54, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • "picture here would be nice". Is that meant to be a hidden comment?
Done Removed comment. Donlammers (talk) 19:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Programs subsection doesn't really tell the reader anything and is too short to be a standalons section.
Done Have moved ZooTeen program reference in History to here. Cited. Added references to several other programs and cited. This section could use something about annual programs, but I'm not likely to have the time to augment it. Donlammers (talk) 17:54, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Repeats some material already covered in the earlier History section, like the Cownose rays.
Done removed detail from History section as it is covered better here. Donlammers (talk) 17:54, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Conservation efforts
  • "In its first years, the zoo hosted one of the first captive breeding programs at any zoo ...". A bold claim that needs to be cited.
 Done Reworked text and cited.
  • "... most of the Arabian Oryx in the wild today have ancestors from the Phoenix Zoo". This doesn't quite seem to tie in with zoo's own claim that it received the last seven known Arabian oryx in the world, which would imply that all of them now in the wild have ancestors from Phoenix Zoo.
Done I have tried to clarify (there were 5 donated animals and two very quick births to make the 7), and have pointed to the main Arabian Oryx Introduction article as well, where there is more detail. In this case, counts made by different parties range from 5 to 11 and are legitimately different because of their perspectives. Donlammers (talk) 17:54, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Third and fifth paragraphs need to be cited.
Done All paragraphs in this section are now cite. Donlammers (talk) 19:31, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sanctuary
  • "The zoo employs an elephant specialist, Alan Roocroft, ...". Is Roocroft especially well-known in the elephant field? If not, probably better to leave this out.
Done There seems to be no special reason to keep this. Donlammers (talk) 17:54, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fundraising for redesign
  • This probably needs to be updated. For instance: "Recently, a Phoenix municipal bond election provided $2 million to the project ...". Presumably this was in 2006, so not exactly still recent.
Done Rearranged chronologically (the bond issue was prior to the zoo announcement. Added citations. Donlammers (talk) 17:54, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
