List of Pingu episodes

On and off over the past couple of months I have put together a list of 157 Pingu episodes, from various sources (DVD / VHS listings, episode lists, etc), and have reconciled this list to the latest Wiki list. There are three episodes I have which do not appear to be on the Wiki list i.e.

• “Pingu and the Braces” (broadcast as “new” by the BBC very recently - seems to belong towards the end of the Series 5 group), on the DVD "Boogaloo Pingu", and
• “Pingu and the Doll”, on a DVD called “Pingu the Baker”, and “Pingu Gets a Warning”, on “Pingu the Pilot”, as listed on the bhvn website. Both these episodes appear to belong towards the end of Series 4.

If this is correct, then Series 4 would have 26 rather than 24 episodes, and Series 5 52 rather than 51 (note: I came across a reference today on a Japanese site to the recent availability of a Series 6 DVD with 26 episodes – I suspect that this is in fact episodes 131 – 156 of the 5 minute episodes and that they’re treating our Series 5 as two series of 26 episodes). Your right about series 5 having 52 episodes, I'd missed Pingu and the Braces when I was making the list from the DVD.--RedboXen 12:53, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Having done some research, Im unsure about the number of episodes in series 4. There are only 24 episodes on the japanese DVD which is billed as being the complete series. However according to HIT Entertainment website, there are 104 in total. --RedboXen 13:02, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

All the information I've found, except the Wiki main page (!?!) indicates that 104 5 minute episodes were taken over by HIT (= series 1 - 4). This implies that series 4 is 26 episodes.

I've been looking at the listings (in translation!) of the German "Pingu Classics" DVD's (no.'s 1 - 8), and the episodes covered by each. They seem to correspond pretty well, if not exactly (I haven't checked the episodes covered in detail for the Classic 1, 2 and 3 dvd's, but the episode ranges are correct), to the order of the Wiki series 1 - 4.

In particular, the 11 listed episodes for the Pingu Classic 7 DVD are episodes no.'s 73 - 83 = wiki 3.21 - 4.5, as expected. The episodes for Classic 8 are defined as episodes 84 - 94, and would correspond to Wiki 4.6 - 4.16 if the "Pingu Gets a Warning" episode was included as 4.9 (i.e. after "Pingu the Archer") and the current Wiki 4.9 was 4.10, the current 4.10 was 4.11, etc.

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a Pingu Classic 9! However, I found a chinese language site offering a series of DVD's, and the last one of these DVD's listed the final 11 or so episodes of Wiki series 4, and in the expected order. If this was correct, and I've no reason to suppose it wasn't, then the "Pingu and the Doll" episode follows "Pingu the Baker", and brings the total number of episodes for series 4 up to the expected (!?) 26. Have done a bit more research. The ABC network (Australia), according to their program guides, broadcast the 2nd half of the currently listed series 4 episodes (4.13 - 4.24), in the order listed, between 24/8/05 and 9/9/05. Included in this set was the "Pingu and the Doll" episode, in the place as predicted above (i.e between "Pingu the baker" and "Pingu helps {his} Grandfather") [1]. Similarly, the 1st half of the series 4 episodes was broadcast between 23/1/06 and 8/2/06, with "Pingu gets a warning" in the expected place between "Pingu the Archer" and "Pingu and the Magnet".Kwerty 02:39, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Pingu Episode Titles

I have been investigating the Pingu episode titles, as derived from various DVD and video content lists (in English and /or as translated (!?!) from non-English sources), BBC broadcast titles, etc, etc), with a view to coming up with a “definitive” list (and alternative versions where applicable).

As these Wiki pages are English, I feel that any (main) title used should make sense in English, and be correct both grammatically and in spelling. The title actually used can be a bit subjective, but I would suggest that as far as practicable they are defined to be consistent with UK practice and usage (e.g. episode 1.13 is usually referred to as “Barrel of Fun” rather than as “Pingu and the race on the barrel planks”, 2.12 “Pingu’s Parents gave no time” is usually “Pingu’s New Kite”, etc).

Before I have a go at “tidying up” the current listing, are there any constructive comments that anyone would like to make? Kwerty 02:29, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Keep in mind that the japanesse list is to date the nearest thing to an "offical" list of titles we've had for the full series, the BBC made up thier own titles for episodes, and the recent HIT videos have followed this practise.

The translated japanese titles come directly from the japanese DVD's they are listed in japanese and (badly) translated english on the insert.

I hadn't come across the INFAX pages - interesting! The 110 titles shown there are pretty well what I had in mind for the Wiki list, with a few minor changes (spelling, etc).

I reconciled the BBC list to what I consider is the basic list of 157(!) episodes. The episodes NOT on the BBC list are 3.14 - 3.26 (13 in all), 4.1 - 4.26(26!), 5.52 and the "wedding" episodes (1+1). Also, 6 episodes (5.35, 5.38, 5.39, 5.44, 5.46 and 5.47) were broadcast for the first time by the BBC in January this year but are not listed on INFAX with the others that were! This gives 110 + 13 + 26 + 1 + 1 + 6 = 157. Kwerty 19:24, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Pingu Episode Descriptions

Is there anyone who has an intention to set up episode descriptions? If not, I'll make a start myself, but before doing this are there any guidelines, preferences, etc as to how it might best be done? Kwerty 03:24, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Clearly someone is, and much better than I would have managed, but I'd prefer to see a layout more along the lines of the "Thomas the Tank Engine" site as I think it would be clearer and neater. Any objections if I adapt it? Kwerty 23:21, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Kwerty

Pingu's Air Date Trouble

The air date of the Pingu episodes in this page are unsourced. According to some releable sources such as the official Pingu japanese website, they say the first episode aired on 10.11.1990! You just believed in this air date lie.--109.101.220.131 (talk) 15:18, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

Vandalism Nobody Seems To Notice (Nor Care About)

Recently, I went back through this article's history to try and restore it back to having actual information about the show that was surely there. I had to go back to around 2016-2017, but I did manage to find a point prior to the vandalism and restored it (although I confess to not knowing how to actually "restore" an edit, so in a pinch I just did it manually by copy-pasting the original revision).

Unfortunately, someone who wasn't paying much attention restored it back to the vandalized version of the article. For those of you wondering, no, Woody Woodpecker and Pingu are entirely unrelated, even though I feel this doesn't have to be said. The show doesn't date back to 1941, and it's fairly obvious the rest of the inaccurate information was added in by someone copying information blindly from the Woody Woodpecker article.

This is probably the only time I've ever added to a Talk page in my life - I don't even have an account! I'm just disappointed that some lesser articles on Wikipedia (such as the episode list for an international kid's show) get slipped through the cracks and even assisted by patrolling editors who mean well but don't pay attention in vandalism. I won't re-restore the older version of the article, especially as I was doing it incorrectly, but I'll put this here in hopes it will explain things and maybe someone with more clout around here can fix the issue without it being undone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.181.190.45 (talk) 19:06, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
