Redirect for now

Since a search on the subject doesn't bring it up, I've made a redirect of it. I think we can make this an article in itself when it's officially announced -presumably at GDC next week. JackSparrow Ninja 15:48, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Redirect for now

So does that mean I can remove the redirect and move the article on home off the PlayStation Network Page to here? Evansam 06:24, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Homepage?

Is there anyway the homepage is verifiable? Like checking the IP adress of that webpage and Sony's webpage? There are a few things in the webpage that are swaying away the fact that it is the actual homepage, including no updates for months, not to mention the closed beta has begun(I believe) or that the open beta begins in august(I also think). The other things are a few spelling and gramatical errors in the... EULA or terms of agreement on that webpage such as "sale" instead of sold an upsidedown picture. If anyone wants to do some reasearch on finding out if its real or not... thats where to start. Cwg999 13:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Release Date

Why is the release date changed to Spring 08? It is still planned for an open beta late nov early dec... --Jordan199311 (talk) 22:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Sony HAS announced that it will release the PUBLIC BETA of HOME in July and the Final Release is SCHEDULED for October. Kylepeabody 16:10, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

In that case, I'll just add that part about the Public BETA release in the article.--LF2 13:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

How's this? "The Public BETA version of Home will be released in July. The global release date for Home has been confirmed for Fall 2007."--LF2 13:10, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

The exact date of of the release of the open beta is yet to be announced, people should not be adding specific dates until Sony confirms the release date. --Credema 22:51, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Why exactly does it say July 7th? It's a pretty specific time, too... Someone take a look into this please. --Boyblunder 19:04, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Because people have been altering it almost every day with obscure specifics like that. --Quaru 19:26, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Ah, I see. Well it's starting to piss me off and give me false hope. At least put a source. --Boyblunder 20:39, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

The release date for the open beta is constantly being changed based on speculation. I purpose that it either be set to July, which is apparently what the in-game PSP in Home reads, or 'Summer 2007' as we do know that it will be released sometime this summer. --Credema 04:22, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Will people stop editing the release date!!! It's any where in july and thats it! not July 9th at 12 am. the month of july is all we know an thats the way its gonna stay. how do u lock this article, its seriously starting to piss me off. people are going crazy on that goddamn ps forums over this crap EDIT: i read the sony pdf and it did say august so ill leave it as it is, if some one changes it to summer 2007 or july 2007 thats fine, but leave it at one thing and thats it! DanB91 07:01, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

It is locked, but that just means you have to be registered. It's helping, but isn't perfect. I keep changing it back to July and removing a link that's purely being added as spam. As far as I can tell, despite that one pdf saying August, Sony has repeatedly said July since then, and that's the general concensus. So I'm trying to keep the page not full of crap, but it's a bit of an uphill battle. Quaru 10:20, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Rumor has it.... yup rumor not fact, that there won't be an "open"/"Public" beta. I believe people took a quote out of context... from the beginning... what they actually said was "... we will move from a closed beta to a more 'open' beta in July" 00:50 [1] this is supported by a few people claiming to have "randomly" received it in their Playstation Store late july early augest [2] < it's somewhere in there if you really want to find it lol Vdub49 06:03, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Sony denies October release date [3] -- Vdub49 19:35, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Anyone heard of that "soft release" thing, they claim that it's going to be a "soft release" -- Vdub49 04:37, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Updates at E3

If anyone wants to watch the video here: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21601.html

I'm sure some of this could go into the article. (I'm at a computer that hates all video so I can't easily) Just make sure to reference it if you add facts from it. And please, do not change the release information based on this, I did catch enough to know that he said public release is fall 07, right in line with what's already on the page.CamannTALK 15:12, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

After the Sony conference ended at E3 some people thought that it was said that the Home open beta was pushed back to Fall, in that video they said that '...a function that you have all been asking for, and one that will be available when we launch this Fall'. I'm rather sure that he is referring to the public release and not the public beta. --Credema 16:40, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Image change

File:Home-20070307013706138.jpg
Home users admiring the "Lair" trophy.

thumb|250px|right|The Home icon in the XMB between "Game" and "Network". The image next to the trophy paragraph in the article has been changed from the top image to the one on the bottom. This seems totally out of place to me. What do others think about this. I'm not about to start some kind of edit war, and the editor has removed my questioning of the change from their talk page. I just want to know if anyone knows of any reason the top picture is unusable or reasons the bottom picture is better.

My reasoning for preferring the top image:

  • Relevant to nearby text
  • Gives readers an idea of what to expect from Home trophies
  • Shows 3 avatars, each wearing different clothing
  • Higher resolution

My reasoning against the bottom image:

  • Icon and text are small and blurry
  • Really doesn't have much value to the Home article since it's primarily showing the Xross Media Bar.

Anyway, I'm not going to revert this now, but is there some reason anyone knows that the top image wasn't fine already? CamannTALK 17:48, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps if someone can produce an enhanced version of the bottom one then we could put both just to show how you start Home. Also if we could get the text of all the icons that would be good. It looks like the one shown might say "Launch Home". --71.170.1.92 18:16, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Definitely, I've moved the pictures around. The trophy one really belongs next to that paragraph. If we could get a better XMB picture for home that would be great. CamannTALK 19:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I have found an image that seems to look better, especially when it is at full size. The image is located at http://playstationhomeinsider.googlepages.com/mvc014fxd9ce5.jpg/mvc014fxd9ce5-full.jpg and is taken from http://playstationhomeinsider.googlepages.com --Credema 00:45, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
This is interesting, the picture you've chosen Credema has Home showing up as a game, while the blurry image has a "Home" entry in the XMB bar independent of the Games. I'm guessing the independent entry is the plan for the final release while the Game entry is for the Beta tests. CamannTALK 15:53, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry, my previous comment is really useless. I don't know how to go about procuring permission for an image. If the blurrier image is more indicative of the final product then I don't know if it's really worth going out of our way to get it since in a few months anyone can grab a screenshot once it's released. CamannTALK 01:15, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
That was my concern as well, I'm not sure who to go about getting the right to use the image, and I'm not sure if use of the image would be in correspondence with WP:Fair use. I agree that the current image will do, unless someone is able to find/take a better 'free' image, especially if it better reflects the final product. --Credema 06:39, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

I am the person that put the bottom picture on the page, do you want me to crop it so you see less of the XMB, and pay money to get the HD version of the video that I took the screen shot of?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.205.139.136 (talkcontribs) 18:59, 22 July 2007.

No need, we'll just stick with this one until it comes out. It's okay, no need to spend money on this. Once October comes around anyone can grab a screenshot. CamannTALK 18:38, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Open Beta Date

I purpose that if the beta turns out not to be in July we should change the date of release for the Home open beta to 'unknown' or something along those lines. I'm posting this because I know that people will want to change it to August, but just because it didn't come out in July, like it was announced, does not mean that it will surely come out in August. Of course this shouldn't be changed yet, because there is still today and tomorrow until the first of August. --Credema 07:11, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

It seems someone has already made the change to August and given the official Q&A as reference. My old reference seems to be a dead link. I think it's safe to leave it as August since this is an official document. While I had hoped the beta screenshots revealing July for open beta, they weren't really ever officially announced.
If we were going to change it, though; I'd suggest just removing the open beta entry leaving the currently running closed beta and announced release on the page. CamannTALK 20:33, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
I suppose that August is fine to use as it is an official document that says this. This is probably what we should have used all along, instead of those beta screenshots, but I guess those were rather official as well. --Credema 19:08, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
I think it should be left as August or Fall of both, but why dose it say September now, also the final release date has changed. I think there should be some reason talked about here for supplying those dates and without refrences. --71.170.1.101 19:47, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
If you check the edit history on the page you'll see that neither Credema or myself made the change. The people who change dates without references are just vandals. Anyway, it's back to normal now. CamannTALK 22:07, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
"Normal" being the best resource we have, being August for beta, and Sept. for release, which Sony reiterated at E3 is still the schedule, and they are still on it.Quaru 23:45, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't seem like the Home Beta will be released in August either. Now what should we set the release date for? Maybe we should just set it to 'Unknown' or just remove the entry, unless someone has some other citable date. --Credema 00:24, 31 August 2007 (UTC) I have removed the entry, if someone would like to re-add it, please cite it with a source for the date. --Credema 21:09, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

General Beta Testing amount of users

The current entry for General Beta Testing in the Release Date and Availability section states that there will be an estimated 50,000 users in that beta stage. However, I was unable to find where it stated the amount of people in the beta in the article that was cited with that entry, nor was I able to find it on other websites. Did Sony really mention the amount of players in that beta phase as around 50,000? --Credema 04:40, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

No, I made that edit. Someone put 100,000 - 200,000 or something ridicules like that so I deleted it because, A: it had no reference B: that is a lie or a big mistake because they have stated several times that they were going to a "soft launch", C: I was going off the "open beta" numbers since thats the last numbers we had, if you can find a reference fell free to change it (or put in "unknown" if you want) but their being pretty secretive so i don't know if anyone can. -- Vdub49 23:50, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

The Big rumor for (I think it was General beta testing) is April 1 I dont know who started it but I have seen it on numerous web pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thomas211 (talkcontribs) 04:15, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Home-20070307013706138.jpg

Image:Home-20070307013706138.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

How Do You Get The Software On Your PS3?

Does it come on the latest version or do you get it from the store?96.231.131.64 22:29, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Dates

Can We change the date for the open beta to, Late Nov./early Dec. possibly Nov.29 we have the source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Killsalot11 (talkcontribs) 05:15, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to oppose that because the sources provided are not credible sources. People in blogs or forums generally have no proof, while boards with screenshots could be just an advertisement meant to create the hype. -- Vdub49 (talk) 05:37, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Please provide good references for changes to this section. Wikipedia does not publish unverifiable information, no matter if true or not. See WP:V. The page has been semiprotected to cool things down a bit; even some vandalism got lost over the constant speculative changes. Kusma (talk) 17:53, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

ok can we change it to December? November is over. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.76.146.176 (talk) 18:49, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Q1 beta

Q: Can you guys give us an update on where you’re at with the Home initiative?

A: Sure, we’re looking to do a beta in the first quarter of calendar 2008. And then we’re not 100 percent sure on when the full-blown release will be in terms of an actual date, but obviously following the … data. [4] its near the middle.--Killsalot11 (talk) 17:28, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

No beta?

What was the source for the following sentence: "Home was announced to be delayed until the second quarter of 2008, Sony have recently announced that there will no longer be an open beta due to time constraints"? The footnote [3] does not support this sentence in any way. LF2 (talk) 22:26, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Release Dates etc

Sorry, I somehow hit submit while typing in my edit description. We've had a number of edits posting rumors (see WP:CRYSTAL and WP:V) and guesses on the month that Home will be released. Unless the date can be verified by a reliable source, which should just use the RS'd date we have, which is currently Spring 2008. kind regards, --guyzero | talk 20:09, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

We shouldn't really use dates like Spring, due to the fact that the seasons are different for countries in the southern hemisphere. - X201 (talk) 09:47, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I think 2nd quarter is a good alternate for spring. It's within about 10 days on both ends of what Spring is in the northern hemisphere. And considering how vague the date is should be close enough, especially when cited. I made such a change earlier but it got switched back to Spring so I left it like that. Does it need locking again?

Anyone else think this page needs locking again? Looking at it's history over the past few days, the release date has been changed back and forth several times thanks to rumours and hearsay. As most people know, the most accurate date we have at the moment is "Spring 2008".

Could someone put a lock on it again? Is it possible to lock just one section of a page? ChimpanzeeUK (talk) 09:02, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I'll drop a note to the previous admin who locked it. They told me to come back if it needed locking again - X201 (talk) 09:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
