There's good reason to doubt the September 1st, 1981 release date inserted by user Piriczki in 2008. At the time of the album's release, Hall & Oates had three previous albums in the Billboard Album charts, so they weren't a band that had never been or had faded from public consciousness. Private Eye debuted in the Billboard album charts for the week ending September 28th, 1981, giving a lot more credence to the September 17th, 1981 release date that had been in the article before Piriczki's edit. Piriczki probably obtained the September 1, 1981 release date from Copyright database (though we wouldn't know since there's no attempt at a citation), but the Copyright database is provably unreliable as a source for release dates. 20:23, 19 August 2021 (UTC)
