Merge discussion[edit]

Are these really the same peak? Looking at the terrain map, Pushpagiri is in a slightly different (and lower) place than the 1,712 m peak labelled with "Kumaraparvata temple". However, Kumara Parvata hiking trail leads to a 1,645 m peak about 200 m WSW of the temple. It is worth noting that Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary mentions both names as if they were separate peaks and both names appear in the Template:Western Ghats.

One question that really needs answering: if they can be successfully be merged, do we really need both articles? Astronaut (talk) 00:14, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When you reach the peak of what is called Kumara Parvatha there is a signboard which states Pushpagiri Peak - 0 Km. - connoting they are the same. Kumara Parvatha lies in the Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and probably therefore the confusion. Since each of the peaks in this area have a name and none are specifically called Pushpagiri I think these two articles can be merged. Robert.devasia (talk) 18:20, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it is better to keep the current articles as they are now. Because, kumara parvatha is more popular among the trekkers who start their trekk from kukke Subramanya [1]. And pushpagiri is rather a name for the entire mountain ranges. If trekkers trek to Kumaraparvata from Kukke Subramanya, one has to invariably pass Pushpagiri peak to go to Kumaraparvata. But both the peaks are clearly distinguishable peaks. Support Pushpagiri and Kumaraparvata are same mountains; People from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district call it as Kumara parvata and People from Kodagu side call it as Pushpagiri. One peak, which is called "battada rashi" from western side (udupi and Mangalore) is recognised as Kumara Parvatha by Kodagu side. So these two articles can be merged. I have visited both peaks, rather one peak, and trekked from Mangalore side to Kodagu side.Rayabhari (talk) 05:35, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
