File name - spelling[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm L293D. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —specifically this edit to Régiment Etranger de Parachutistes—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. L293D ( • ) 19:51, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello L293D, I do not understand your revert because you distort the French current writing, and with bad spelling. I am a French user and I know rather well the French usage about military things. Please see fr:1er régiment étranger de parachutistes for example. So the file should be renamed. If you need any more explanation, do not hesitate. --Histo-92 (talk) 19:57, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Look, I speak fluent French as well. But the English Wikipedia policy on the matter, MOS:MILTERMS says that names of military units are proper names and should be capitalized. This is part of a general difference in the usage of capital letters between English and French: English capitalizes most of the words in a book title, country names, etc. Best, L293D ( • ) 20:08, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello L293D,
Nevertheless there is a spelling error (étranger is with an "é", like "régiment" ! Capital : "É"), do not forget to correct it (introduction and title). Best. --Histo-92 (talk) 20:35, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As I read this in your MOS « Where there is uncertainty as to whether a term is generally accepted, consensus should be reached on the talk page. », maybe as it is a French name, less useless capitals could be a good choice. Best. --Histo-92 (talk) 20:42, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Moreover, this is not here the name of a military unit because the word, employed with plural, designs a group of units, in a generic way : another good reason not to capitalize. Best. --Histo-92 (talk) 09:57, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
