Are the seats lacking incumbents deliberately, i.e. they're currently vacant due to resignation or death of the incumbent? I suppose so, since the information would be available right here on Wikipedia... —Nightstallion 09:14, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • One would hope that information would be on Wikipedia; but it isn't, generally - an indication of the very substantial work yet to be done right across the Melanesian topic area (shameless plug: WikiProject Melanesia). As you can see from all the redlinks, almost none of these Members of Parliament have articles yet. The seats which I haven't entered members for are those where the current member is not contesting this election... I plan to add the other existing members also, perhaps with notes like (retiring) etc. In more than one case the previous member has been removed from office for misconduct (e.g. Manus Open). It's easy to find out who was elected in 2002, but not a trivial task to identify who the current member is: there's a lack of official information on this. Guten morgen! BTW, you do great work in updating this article, just wanted to have said that. :)Nightstallion 10:41, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks! The next few days will be busy - 80-odd seats due to be declared by the weekend... Wantok (toktok) 12:24, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Just wanted to echo what Nightstallion said. I've been trying to keep an eye out for newly declared results over the last few days, but you've always beaten me to them. Rebecca 05:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Cheers! Great to hear that there are others around with an interest. There's an awful lot needing work (writing from scratch/bringing up to date/expansion) on matters Melanesian (even just in the field of PNG politics and government)... this has been a shameless plug for WikiProject Melanesia :) Wantok (toktok) 05:15, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • At the moment, I'm just waiting for the declaration of the last candidates, and then I'll start trying to write articles on some of these people. Incidentally, have you heard anything about the race in Western Provincial? I was talking to a politician here a few days ago who heard the PNG Green Party were doing very well, but I haven't been able to confirm it. Rebecca 11:23, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
          • Great! Last I heard, no-one was expecting an upset in Western - Bob Danaya is so far ahead of the others that he's sure to be returned. Just checked the official candidate list - there were 3 Greens candidates in the election: Frank Diro in North Fly Open (1.08% of the primary vote), Gregory Bani in South Fly Open (1.52%), and Colin Travertz in Western Provincial (4.10%). Not earth-shattering but the provincial vote was respectable. Curious that they were all in Western. Wantok (toktok) 13:01, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to include a +/– column with overall seat changes as compared to 2002, but with little information as to who the 2002 "one-MP parties" where and what party names are identical, I quickly gave up... Could you do that, Wantok? —Nightstallion 05:52, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
