I removed the concluding sentence "Richard Souther is one of the greatest modern pianists." I'm a long-time admirer of Richard Souther too, but to say something like this requires some kind of source attribution. Failing that, make a link to a Wikipedia page listing all the greatest modern pianists, so we can all be enlightened. Keno (talk) 01:08, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite of article (September 2015)[edit]

The original version of this article was a massive copyright-violation problem. More than half of it was taken, virtually verbatim, from Souther's web site and most of the rest was identical to portions of Souther's Facebook page. These problems appeared in the article at the time it was created, so there was no option of simply reverting to an earlier non-copyright-violating version. Rather than report the article for deletion, I rewrote it using whatever independent sources were available. And frankly, there wasn't that much out there. But there was enough to hit most of the highlights of Souther's career. I note, however, that the list of appearances (in the 1970s) has been sourced solely to listings at the Discogs site. Some editors might not approve and, if they don't, they might remove some or all of it.

A few specific notes:

  1. Souther's web site states that he was nominated for four Grammy Awards, but says nothing about when, for what works, or in what categories. If these nominations can be corroborated by reliable sources, they should be added to the article.
  2. In a similar vein, Souther's web site states that Vision won the Billboard Award for Best Classical Crossover Album of the Year. This is a plausible claim, but I was unable to corroborate it (in part, I think, because Billboard didn't consider it to be a "Richard Souther" album). Here too, if a reliable source can be found, the award should be added to the article.
  3. I removed the link to Souther's MySpace page. I also went to the articles for the two Wiki-linked albums and removed the artist web-site links from those pages.
  4. This page has been placed in the category "Musicians from Los Angeles". That's probably a correct categorization, but nothing in the article (as it now exists) backs it up.

That the article contained material from the subject's website or Facebook is possible, but ascertaining the order of use may not be possible. Re-writing was a good option. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:33, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
