We are aware that the wording on Cornish entries can sometimes be a contentious topic, especially those concerning geography. Whilst this is an old legend, the noise is in fact genuine. I have personally heard it during night time whilst traversing the river bed. It scared me so much that I nearly ended up in the water. However, I cannot confirm what exactly the noise is, but it is likely to be either a crake or a fox. It's unlikely to be a monster as they're usually to be found in Newquay, not Crantock.
