Library Poll[edit]

We have a dead link for the library poll. Can anyone hunt it down and fix it? --Jp07 (talk) 05:17, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just an aside...[edit]

Back in 1965, during LBJ's big buildup in Vietnam, I used to be a carrier - that is, I delivered the Salina Journal while we resided on Schilling Manor AFB. This base was also known as the "Home of the Waiting Wives" for years, for many families who had service members serving their tours fighting in Vietnam. I spent a little over a year there while my father served his first tour in 'Nam. So the Salina Journal, and Schilling Manor AFB will always be near & dear to my heart, most especially the newspaper. At that time, it was actually an evening newspaper, only on Sundays was it a morning paper. I spent many bitterly cold Sunday mornings at 3 a.m. delivering those papers, hoping my father would survive to come home to us (he did, but later died due to Agent Orange exposure). I really posted this just to say I am delighted that the Salina Journal still exists, and it would be nice to see a much more detailed article about this long-existing newspaper. I wish I were qualified, but I am not (by far), otherwise I'd be happy to contribute. The Salina Journal gave me my first job, and taught me about how to run a small (very small) business. I learned far more than is appropriate to say here, and on base, that paper was carried (delivered) mostly by the dependents of the servicemen fighting in Vietnam, so we were a close knit, if somewhat competitive group.

I will always be grateful to the Salina Journal for giving me my first job, teaching me about business, and giving me something constructive to do while worrying about Dad fighting overseas. The Salina Journal was also a comfort to many wives, sons & daughters of those servicemen & servicewomen. Long Live the Salina Journal! HendixVibrato (talk) 00:08, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
