Scoular[edit]

Scoular (/ˈskuːlr/), formally The Scoular Company, is a corporation based in Omaha, Nebraska dedicated to the buying, selling, storage, handling, transportation, and processing of grain, feed and food ingredients, and manages transportation and logistics worldwide.[1] The company was founded in 1892 by George Scoular and was owned by the Scoular family until its purchase in 1967 by Omaha businessman Marshall Faith, who served as CEO for the next 23 years. At the time of Faith's purchase Scoular had 10 employees and operated three grain elevators, but grew considerably over subsequent decades[2] and is one of the largest grain storage and handling companies in North America.

In 2019, Scoular founded Petsource by Scoular™, an indirect, wholly owned and independently operated freeze-dried pet food ingredient manufacturing subsidiary.[3]

In 2020, Scoular was ranked one of the top 10 exporters in the world.[4] They are one of the top 100 on Forbe’s list of America’s Largest Private Companies.[5]

Scoular employs over one thousand people and operates across 100 facilities in North America and Asia. In 2020 Scoular reported $4.6 billion in annual revenue and more than one billion bushels traded./[6]

Scoular[edit]

  • What I think should be changed (include citations):

1) In the first paragraph, this portion of the first sentence could change to...

  • Specific text to be changed: "dedicated to the buying, selling, storage, handling, transportation, and processing of grain and food ingredients." Update to "dedicated to the buying, selling, storage, handling, and processing of grain, feed and food ingredients."
  • Reason for the change: More clearly notes that feed is also part of the business.

2) Include a new sentence in first paragraph, immediately after the first sentence...

  • Specific text to add: Scoular manages transportation and logistics worldwide, and was ranked one of the top 10 exporters in the world in 2020.
  • Reason for the change: More clearly states that transportation is global. Explains company rank among exporters.
  • References supporting change:

3)To add below the first paragraph, as new paragraph/sentence...

  • Specific text to add: In 2019, Scoular founded Petsource by Scoular™, an indirect, wholly owned and independently operated freeze-dried pet food ingredient manufacturing subsidiary.
  • Reason for the change: Petsource was created by and is owned by Scoular, but is not currently represented on Scoular's Wikipedia.

4)Update the following information...

  • Specific text to be changed: "Scoular employs approximately one thousand people at 24 offices and 90 storage, handling, and processing facilities, mostly in the United States. In 2017 Scoular reported $4.3 billion in sales and more than one billion bushels traded." Update to "Scoular employs over one thousand people and operates across 100 facilities in North America and Asia. In 2020 Scoular reported $4.6 billion in annual revenue and more than one billion bushels traded. They are one of the top 100 on Forbe’s list of America’s Largest Private Companies."
  • Reason for the change: Information currently listed is from 2017, this updates information to be more current and to make clear the employees and facilities are not just within North America. Relevant corporate public ranking information from Forbe's.
  • References supporting change:

  • Why it should be changed: Proposing these changes to the Scoular page in order to reflect public rankings and more recent company information and scope of business, since page has not seen significant edits since 2018.
