One slight change

[edit]

Nice article. Consider one slight change: 1.06 meters is not 48 inches. 1.06/.0254 = 42 inches. 198.145.78.119 22:38, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting

[edit]

That enormous template has seriously warped the article. I'd suggest that it be moved so that it does not cause that giant Siberia-like white space in the center of the article. Larry Dunn 19:15, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Strength?

[edit]

Any reports on the strength of the Scutum, that is, the amount of force that it could resist? Perhaps tests have been done on recreations? I've heard stories that under Parthian arrow attack, legionnaires would double or even triple their sheilds, to no avail. The Parthians still got penetration. Handles?

[edit]

Was there just a single handle under the bus? Or could the shield be strapped to the arm with two straps? Antarctica moon (talk) 19:56, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Descent of the word through Romance languages

[edit]

Where it speaks of this, if it makes sense, one might mention that the related term 'scutage' was one of the main feudal ways of raising taxes, at least in England in the High Middle Ages.
