I am willing to wager that the name was from Felix von Luckner's ship the Seeadler.DanielDemaret 22:26, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought this idea was appealing, but I wonder, after looking through related articles. This harbor was part of German New Guinea until 1914. I do not think von Luckner got to the Bismarck Archipelago. His ship was wrecked at Mopelia in French Polynesia. There was an earlier long range cruiser, SMS Seeadler, that is described as serving 5 years in South East Asia, and might have come here. Or maybe the Germans named it because there were sea eagles living here. I do doubt the name was given in the 1940's. --AJim (talk) 00:00, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
