History Inaccurate[edit]

The opening of this article needs to be re-done, and sources need to be cited throughout. John Walson Sr. started Service Electric's first system in Mahanoy City in 1948. The town is in Schuylkill County, which is north and west of the Lehigh Valley. The company did not come to the Valley until the 1950's, though the opening paragraph indicates its origins are here. There is also some disagreement in the industry over who actually "discovered" cable television, though SECTV has a supportable if not an undisputed claim. I've corrected the history based on SECTV's own account. I left the door open regarding the question of who invented cable TV based on accounts in Cable television in the United States. More needs fixing, probably every remaining sentence. For example, SECTV is known for its "locally originated programming" (not "original local programming"), Adelphia competed with SECTV outside the Lehigh Valley where RCN still competes, coverage of the IronPigs is well underway, the paragraph about the split-screen traffic coverage in Wilkes-Barre is trivial, certainly compared to everything else that could be said, etc., etc. Allreet (talk) 19:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dissatisfied Customers[edit]

I like to start this page as a forum for customers dissatisfied with Service Electric's Services and Business Philosophies and Business Ethics.

Due to my own experiences and the experiences of other customers it is necessary to show how Service Electric misuses its monopolistic grip on the Lehigh Valley market in some major areas.

Service Electric unethically and unlawfully misuses its market domination by playing one customer 1 against an other dissatisfied customer 2 to force customer 2 to pay for services not received or flawed services. In this particular case, Service Electric had a dispute with customer 2, disconnected this customer 2 by simply cutting the cable connection and despite the knowledge that a second customer 1 receives a commercial internet account for his Internet business over the same connection on the same dwelling. Service Electric and its subsidiary PenTeleData were fully aware that customer 1 had no other choice then forcing customer 2 to settle the dispute with Service Electric to get the cable reconnected for service to customer 1. This whole process took over 5 business days and cost customer 1 so far over $60,000 in business income. Since customer 1 is denied compensation by PenTeleData (actual account holder for the Internet service of customer 1), customer 1 is in process to seek legal help to settle this issue with the help of the courts.

I have researched this issue and I can only warn any business people to rely on Service Electric or PenTeleData Internet and Business services. They cannot be trusted and relied upon.

To my knowledge customer 1 is still seeking legal representation to help fight and settle this issue in the courts. Any lawyer willing to take this case on is invited to post information here or to send an e-mail to sft@smartflextech.com.

Above is just another example of the lack of competition and its resulting disadvantages regarding Broadband access in the Lehigh Vally, especially in the under-served Easton and Palmer Township area.
