Kansas
[edit]The Kansas legislature overrode the Governor's veto of the shall issue law on 4/24/06, so I added Kansas to the list.
Need
[edit]I've heard from people from Iowa since county sheriff decides who get permits, certain sheriffs are denying permits based on "lack of need" which would put the state into "May-Issue" category. Remember, some counties in California will issue permits to anyone without proving need and some counties basically don't issue at all but the state is classified as "may issue". Proposal: de-merge
[edit]As noted above, this article was merged into Concealed carry in the United States § Shall-issue in this December 8, 2007 edit. However, I observe here that it is wikilinked from articles on topics wider than or unrelated to the US-centric topic of that article (Overview of gun laws by nation, Gun law in the Czech Republic, some others). I also observe here that the term is used in a number of other such articles without wikilinking. I propose that this redirect page be globalized by replacing it with a short article which, unlike the pre-merge content here, covers the topic without country-specific particulars. If nobody beats me to it or comes up with a good reason why this should not be done, I will probably do this myself after a pause to allow discussion. Please discuss below as needed. - (addition) - Having proposed the above, I see that a similar situation exists with the May-issue redirect. I don't see similar wikilink issues with No-issue, but there is an analogous terminology issue there. Accordingly, I'm now thinking that all of these terms should redirect Overview of gun laws by nation § Vocabulary and terminology (probably a new subsection there).
