I have no idea how some of the names of the foods should be translated, any corrections are welcome. --Loren 6 July 2005 07:18 (UTC)

Travel info[edit]

Some of the recently added information, while useful, is really something better suited for a travel guide and not an encyclopedia article. The encyclopedia article should be concerned primarily with the development of the night market itself, not travel tips. Also, please watch the language used for NPOV. The travel info should be moved to Wikitravel. -Loren 18:03, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Shilin" vs. "Shihlin"[edit]

Regarding the claim that 'Shihlin' is the more common spelling, please cite a reputable 3rd-party reference that supports this claim. Google searches seem to call this claim into question, as they show more than three times as many hits for 'Shilin' than for 'Shihlin':

Domain Shilin hit count Shihlin hit count Ratio
.tw (all Taiwan) 151,000 49,500 3:1
.gov.tw (Taiwan gov't sites) 26,700 6,390 4:1

  • OK, to be more specific, on websites in Taiwan, the phrase "Shilin Night Market" appears much more frequently than "Shihlin Night Market":
Domain Shilin Night Market hit count Shihlin Night Market hit count Ratio
.tw (all Taiwan) 7,080 1,040 7:1
.gov.tw (Taiwan gov't sites) 598 272 2:1
