History section

The History section is rather small, maybe we can expand it a bit. It's missing alot of good stuff like SJ Evolution. – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 18:46, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm gonna work on that this evening, see what sources I can find. It should be able to at least as long as SBs, if not longer. I was out this afternoon looking at more houses (wee). -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 20:32, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Are you getting a new house? – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 20:35, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I'm trying to buy my first house. :) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 20:39, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Great!! : ) – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 21:13, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Did you get that new house? – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 00:40, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
The inspection went well, just waiting to hear the sellers response to my request to fix a few things.-- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 00:43, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Nine days later, I finally started working on the history section. :-P There is tons more out there, so will continue working over the next several days. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 08:55, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I found a source for SJ Evolution. I'm loving this whole archive thing. : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:43, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
There really isn't much to say, though. It was a marketing thing to promote some changes, which have already been noted in the article. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 02:46, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
It has? Where in the article, can't really find it in this chunky article... :P – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 17:44, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Blech, neither than I LOL. I know one of the refs is to something about SJ, though I didn't mention it by name. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 18:59, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Kinda figured that. : ) But still maybe we can use that archive as a reference too. : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 19:11, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Lead section

I've noticed we need to expand the lead section. Although, what to put in it is the question....does anyone have ideas? – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 00:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I plan to work on it soonish. I have a rough idea of what to do, just done about all the writing I want to for today, and I want to make sure I haven't missed anything in the other major sources for expanding the article, since the lead is its summary. That tag is just to remind me not to forget ;) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 00:59, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
That's good, anything I can help with? – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:01, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Do you have any copies of the magazine? If so, can you check the most recent one you have to find the name of the publisher (should be in the list of editor, etc)? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:07, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
It's Hyoe Narita, you already listed that. : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:11, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Woops, actually that was from my copy/pasting from Shojo Beat while cleaning up the infobox. If he does both, though, that's cool. I know they have the same editor :) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:13, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Another request. :) Do you have any of the issues where a series ended or began? Does SJ do like SB, and note on the last page of an ending series' chapter what the new series will be? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:16, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Excuse me, can you explain that a little better.... : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 04:53, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
In SJ, when a series is finished its run in the magazine, on the last page of its last chapter, it will have a note at the bottom saying what series is replacing it in the next issue. For example, Gaba Kawa ended in the August 2008 issue. On the last page of its chapter, was a note that Honey Hunt would be the new series in next month's issue. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 05:05, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
It does bug me that they end it in weird places.....every time. How will we put that in the article? – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 16:25, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
It isn't something to mention in the article. I'm mostly wanting to know to see how easy/difficult it will be to find the page numbers and issues for sourcing series ending and beginnings (if you check Shojo Beat, you'll I have used the mag as a source for some of the start/stops). -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:35, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah, I see where you're going with this.... : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 16:44, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Features section

What we really need is a Features section, I've made up a list:

  • Jump Shot
  • Nihongo lesson
  • Fan Art
  • Brain Benders
  • Monthly Manga News
  • Games We Love

We just need a section explaining all these. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:20, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

That's will mostly be a single sentence or two similar to whats in Shojo Beat's section :) The rest I can figure out, but what is Jump Shot? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:28, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Jump Shot is a section of the magazine that tells about the issue, as well as new DVD releases, and figurines, whats new, etc. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:38, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah, okay, SB has something similar :) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Another question - is the list of currently running series correct? Viz's media kit says the magazine has six series running, but our chart shows seven? Did Slam Dunk replace something when it was added in March, or was the magazine expanded then? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 19:01, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Ah, yeah. It replaced Hikaru no Go. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 19:25, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm...so then current issues do have seven series? -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 19:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Yep, currently SJ is running seven series. BTW, would a list of series previews (Dragon Drive, Gun Blaze West, Rosario + Vampire, etc.) be worth including? —Dinoguy1000 20:17, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I've been going with no on those, as they are just one time things. Something to note in their articles, but for the magazine, its mostly trivial. Only ones that might be worth including are ones that may have jumped the sales (like that one pack in that caused sales to go insane) or were controversial or the like. Then they'd be mentioned in the reception section rather than a list. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 20:42, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I have made a list of previews before, AnmaFinotera erased it. Although, whenever you explain the reason why you erased it, I kinda get a clue. Also you're nice about it, other users are like, "It's not noteworthy, dang it!". : ( So anyway, no preview section. : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 21:16, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, usually previews like that are more of a boon for the series than the magazine (plus such a list would get really really really long after awhile. I can't speak for Shonen Jump, but Shojo Beat does a preview pretty much every issue, sometimes two. :-P -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 22:16, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
From what I've seen, SJ's preview rate is roughly one every two to four issues or so... In any case, I was just wondering, and your reasoning for not listing them certainly makes sense. ;) —Dinoguy1000 16:32, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Way better article!

So far this article is a high-five! : ) Although, I don't really see any grammar issues...what else is there to do? ~_- – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 23:39, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

It needs to be copyedited to check prose issues and make sure the tone and grammar is up to Wikipedia standards. Then I think a peer review to get additional feedback before sending it for GA or FA. Since I mirrored Shojo Beat's layout here, I'll also bring back any feedback from that PR here to update. Meanwhile, I'll check other sources to make sure its through without excessive detail, and to keep it from bring all from one source. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 00:13, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Special editions

We need to, in some way, note the special editions of SJ. Just to make a long story short:

  • Free Comic Book Day: Shonen Jump Special - released free on Free Comic Book Day, a distinguishing feature about it is that it is phamplet size, and has a "A" rating instead of a "T". I can find reliable sources at the Viz site.
  • Shonen Jump Graphic Novels: The Compilation Edition - released at places such as Comic Con, contains previews for selected Shonen Jump series. It later replaced "Graphic Novels" with "Manga" in the title, due to the change of the main SJ manga line. It is regular manga sized.
  • Shonen Jump Advanced: The Compilation Edition - same as the other, only made aspecialy for the Advanced line.

We should make a section or something. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:52, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

No section. Its already noted in the prose that special editions are released throughout the year. A list of them is unnecessary and falls within WP:NOT. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:54, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I didn't say to list them, I meant maybe we could write a small paragraph about them. I was just giving facts about the sertain types of them. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 01:57, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
There is already a statement about them. Unless there is more sourceable information, not much else needs to be said. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 02:00, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
But there is more sourcable information, see: http://www.viz.com/news/newsroom/?id=47 . – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 05:55, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, but that's summarizable down to a single sentence. I meant on special editions in general. We do not need to point out every last one of them. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 06:07, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Makes sence, but we should note the Free Comic Book Day version of SJ. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 16:22, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

SJ Manga image

At the Viz official site at this page it has an image for the manga line logo. I think it would be a great addition to the "Imprint" section. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 05:28, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

No, I don' think we can use that. The logo isn't sufficient different from the one on the cover to be able to justify its use under the fair use guidelines. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 05:33, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't know what you mean by "on the cover", but would this one work any better? Go to the bottom of the page, and you'll see the icon that on the spine of the SJ manga. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 16:06, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
The stylized text on the cover of each issue of Shonen Jump. The logo looks pretty much the same, so there is no need to have a separate image for it. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 17:09, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Non-Weekly Jump series

I think we should have a section that focuses on the series in SJ that were not in the original Weekly Jump. For example Yu-Gi-Oh! GX was originally in V Jump, and a lot of other series are in Monthly Jump like Rosario+Vampire. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 18:44, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

An entire section is unnecessary. The article already clearly notes that Viz does not just translate WSJ issues, but pulls titles from the entire library. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 19:31, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
But they don't, only from the Shonen titles, they can't be publishing adult Jump titles under the SJ line! – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 02:06, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, they could, they just choose not to. :P They make a choice from the available library, based on what they think American audiences would like (as is noted). -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 02:15, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
That would be the day hell freazes over, all you need is children getting exposed to sex, "in their favorite magazine". :P That could anger some parents. Actually, they have published a seinen title in SJ (one that 4Kids decided to make a saturday morning childrens' show out of). – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 15:58, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
LOL, I didn't say it was likely, only that they had the choice ;) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 18:11, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
That makes sense. : ) Anyway, Viz publishes the adult Jump titles under some of their other lines for example: Tough, Inubaka, Real, and Steam Detectives are under their Action and Viz lines. – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 19:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Other SJ titles

I was thinking about something. Maybe we could make a seperate page or list for all the titles that SJ has published. Just a though... : ) – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 15:59, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

No, it isn't necessary. Wikipedia isn't a catalog. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 16:03, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh, forgot. Shonen Jump doesn't seem to have a lot of series. : ( I'm glad there's Yen Plus now. >D – J U M P G U R U @Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 16:12, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
And besides, there's already a category that encompasses the SJ imprint. ;) —Dinoguy1000 17:24, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Move??

Why is the title "Shonen Jump" when it's written as "SHONEN JUMP" on the cover (I checked the archives, no proposal like this has been made... btw great archives :P)? I mean it doesn't fall under WP:MJ because this is an English/American version, and not the Japanese one. Is there some other rule? Moocowsrule (talk) 06:01, 9 November 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule

No, it should not be moved nor renamed. As the lead notes, its name is Shonen Jump and it is stylized SHONEN JUMP. We do not pay attention to those sorts of stylizations like that, per the naming guidelines (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Use standard English for titles even if trademarks encourage otherwise). That's also why we use Viz Media, not VIZ and Funimation not FUNimation. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 06:05, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
I should look at naming conventions... They'd really help. Thanks! Moocowsrule (talk) 06:07, 9 November 2008 (UTC)moocowsrule
Also take note of WP:CAPS, it goes hand-in-hand with the guideline AnmaFinotera pointed out. —Dinoguy1000 20:11, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
