"Completed" column?

[edit]

What exactly is the purpose of this column? As I understand it, it indicates those series which were serialized from start to finish, without skipping a chapter... in which case DBZ should have a "no", since it started serialization at the beginning of the android saga (and to be quite honest, I don't really see the point to this column at all... it feels rather arbitrary to me). —Dinoguy1000 18:31, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is the purpose...series who ran in their entirety in the magazine, rather than stopping part way. It mimics what was done with Shojo Beat's article. There was some discussion to do a chapter/total chapter count instead, but no consensus was reached one way or the other. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 18:42, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So that means DBZ should be changed to "no" since it didn't run in its entirety, right? (I'll have to check up an a couple of other series, too... I still haven't read through my backlog of SJ issues ^_^ ) —Dinoguy1000 19:18, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What if we replaced the column with a "status" column that listed "Ongoing', "Finished" or "Stopped serialization" (or similar)? —Dinoguy1000 19:20, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, on DBZ. The thing with a status is that's already shown by the ending date field, either ongoing or date finished. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 19:47, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New series coming in 2009

[edit]

The series Letter Bee and Wāq Wāq are going to be serialized in the magazine in 2009. Should we list these? Here's my source. : ) – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 22:07, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the March one, but I'm inclined to say no on the August one. A bit too far in the future to be sure it will really happen. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 22:20, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds good. We don't want to confuse people. : ) – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 23:05, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Letter Bee was officially announced in the December or January issue of SJ, I'll have to look it up at home. I think (think) SJ referred to it as Tegamibachi. —Dinoguy1000 18:44, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually they've reffered to it as many things. : P When the series begins it's actual run, let's see what they call it. Until then let's just call it by Letter Bee (it's what it says on the Japanese ones). – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 01:16, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with waiting, but here's the announcement FYI (it was an in-universe thing): —Dinoguy1000 20:51, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We sent SJ staffers to uncover the secrets of Amberground, the mysterious land of perpetual night, where the manga Tegami Bachi by Hiroyuki Asada takes place. They recently turned in their dispatch with express instructions that we share it with you. [in-universe "dispatch" letter] To learn more about the myths and legends of Amberground, catch the first installment of Tegami Bachi in the March issue of SHONEN JUMP!

Interesting. Hopefully it won't be like the thing with RK where they said they were serializing at first, then just did a preview chapter :P -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 21:02, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I dunno, that last sentence makes it sound kind of like they'll only be previewing (but it is admittedly open to interpretation =P ). —Dinoguy1000 22:15, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm honestly not excited at all. I mean (if you can read Japanese) the English stuff is not that good, they edit it too much. Also they replace the Japanese FX, which takes all the life out of the drawing replacing it with a goofy typeface. I mean they could at least leave it in and put a translation under the panel. : P – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 00:05, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, not everyone can be Del Rey... They have some of the best translation work I know of, without being able to reference the original Japanese material for accuracy. —Dinoguy1000 18:26, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's true, Del Rey is amazing. I mean seriously, I'm a huge fan of Hiroyuki Asada, I haven't missed one chapter of any of his manga, I have all the Robot: Super Color Comic issues. Just to think of Viz altering the beautiful artwork of Tegami Bachi sounds absolutly terrible to me. Glad Dark Horse took the Banya: The Explosive Delivery Man manhwa, artwork is unbelievable and they stayed true to the artwork. You should check it out. : ) – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 19:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would (I've heard of the series before), but sadly it's not in the local library system... (holy crap, that's a messy URL... @_@ ) —Dinoguy1000 19:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just look at the artwork on the cover, unbelievable. O_O LOL on the URL. : P zi think it's my old uncle Url. – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 21:53, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Editor-in-chief Grant Lowery

[edit]

That is a ridiculously long URL, even for ANN...

Grant Lowery has been SJ's editor-in-chief at least since June 2009; unfortunately, my back issues are packed away so I can't really check to see if there was any kind of announcement or even when the first issue is that he is credited as editor-in-chief. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 21:27, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kana title

[edit]

It is fairly common on Wikipedia for media in foreign languages with different alphabets to offer spellings in the native alphabet. Shouldn't a native Kanji or -kana rendering be in the lead? This would seem both relevant to people trying to search for material and to people trying to translate the name or research the context of the name. Even a statement of whether the title is usually rendered on the cover in katakana or in hiragana is itself meaningful. Eebster the Great (talk) 05:49, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Or well, the title in the example picture on the homepage is in English (or Romaji). That is significant in itself if it is the norm for the magazine. Eebster the Great (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:51, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You might be confusing this article for Weekly Shōnen Jump. This is about Viz's North American magazine, thus the name is only in English. Opencooper (talk) 07:09, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
