Untitled[edit]

Bertram Shots was originally referred to as Bertram de Shotts, or Bertram of (or from) Shotts, implying that Shotts already existed. He was allegedly born in 1467 yet Shotts is mentioned in a Papal charter from 1476 dedicating the church of St. Catherine, when he would have been eleven years old, and presumably not started in his career of crime. King James IV allegedly ordered his death, but that king was not crowned till 1488. There not much possibility therefore of the village being named "Shotts" after the highwayman, it must be the other way round, the robber having taken his name (as was common them) from the place. This is confused by the fact that up till the nineteenth century the place used to be referred to as "Bertram Shotts," with the no longer used "Bertram" part probably coming from the name of the giant highwayman.Wmck (talk) 08:49, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Town Status Reference[edit]

Tthe current link provided for proof of Shotts town status was simply a link to a petition and did not actually prove Shotts's town status.

OLD LINK Cochrane, Thomas. "Town Status for Shotts | 38 Degrees". you.38degrees.org.uk. I have changed the reference to an article created by north Lanarkshire council that clearly states Shotts is a town
