Volksgerichtshof - Volksgericht (Austria)

[edit]

The Volksgericht which sentenced Siegfried Seidl to death must not be mixed up with the Volksgerichtshof that was established in National Socialist Germany in 1934.

The Volksgericht (the translation is indeed the same as of Volksgerichtshof - People's Court) was a court which was set up after WW II by the re-established Republic of Austria to deal with Nazi crimes that had been committed between the Anschluss of Austria in 1938 and the end of the war in 1945. It was in effect until 1955. (See de:Volksgericht (Österreich) - in German.) --Wolfgang glock 21:14, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
