Album Reception Among Fans
[edit]"a solid and promising debut from a band that would eventually go on to produce numerous truly great albums.".. I think a lot of people (including me) would consider Silver amung Starflyer 59's best work. 64.33.177.121 03:54, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think the article is saying that the album isn't good Starflyer, although the use of the words "truly great" does make it seem that way in one sense (as in, "Silver is not truly great"). A little rewrite may be in order. —PrintHorizon 05:45, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Release year
[edit]I'm wondering about the release year. I have seen a few sources give the release year as 1993, but most others give it as 1994. Three of these include the official Tooth & Nail page for the album [1] (the months and days they give are sometimes incorrect, but I have not seen any wrong years), the album itself, which is copyrighted 1994, and the band's songbook. (However, the songbook also says that Fell in Love at 22 was released in 1998, so... :P ) Anyway, I'd like either for someone to point to me a really definitive source that says the release year was 1993 (which I would really appreciate, because I enjoy getting my musical facts correct), or to change it to 1994. --PrintHorizon 01:59, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Changes I just made
[edit]I removed some biased praise and conjecture, just because it was really non-encyclopedic, even though I feel no amount of praise is too high for this album. I got it in '97 and it exploded like an atom bomb in my mind, & I felt totally cheated when the band dramatically changed its sound, as I'm sure most of SF59's original fans did. But fan reaction is something that should be reserved for this talk page, not for the main article.
I also added the cassette cover art info, since it's odd that this album has had three distinct covers (much like Smashing Pumpkins' Pisces Iscariot).
I don't think the genre "indie rock" should even be used in regards to this album, since that term generally denotes music that is irreverent, "slacker," underproduced, and/or non-ambitious, four terms which could never be applied to Silver. But I kept it on there, since it was technically released on an indie label. However, I feel the only two genres given to it should be shoegaze and dream pop, in that order, especially since it is often cited as the pinnacle of U.S. shoegaze LPs.
Also, I think it's safe to say this album was entirely recorded in 1993, or even partially in '92, since it was released in early 1994. Chris77xyz 19:02, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
