Skidding before skidders

[edit]

I believe that the practice of skidding logs long predates the equipment built for this purpose in the 19th century and after, and I think the machine is named after the old practice of skidding, not the other way around. A team of oxen could be yoked and the log , chained to the yoke and "skidded" out of the thicker woods where it could be loaded onto a sledge. AnnaGoFast (talk) 01:38, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

History section

[edit]

Im sure this information is out there somewhere and i certainly don't have it.

I was looking for an in depth history section that would talk about when these Skidders actually started being used. For example, tracked skidders started being used in logging operations circa....

Other examples are cable skidders, grapple skidders, rubber tracked skidders, metal tracked skidders, tire chains, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.91.159.217 (talk) 16:46, 31 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
