Fixing typos in first paragraph Msfwebdude 00:47, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The section on "Loading and Vibration" seems to be self-contradictory. The first paragraph says that "The load a skyscraper experiences is largely from the force of the building material itself" while the second paragraph says "The wind loading on a skyscraper is also considerable." These can't both be true. Rick lightburn (talk) 16:05, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't there be some mention of the special problems of designing human services like water, sewage, air flow, elevator traffic, etc.? These are very important concerns in the design of tall buildings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.40.184.142 (talkcontribs) 20:59, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Slipformed concrete core

[edit]

As far as I can tell, London's Shard is supported by a slipformed concrete core. What's more, it appears many modern skyscrapers are built this way. The slipform page says "It is the most common method for construction of tall buildings in Australia". Is the core really the main support, and if so, shouldn't it be mentioned here? 87.157.205.18 (talk) 16:33, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What about the foundation ?

[edit]

Nothing about the engineering rationale for the big hole in the ground it starts from... how do they ensure the ground it's sitting on can support the weight ? Bedrock ? Piles ? Rcbutcher (talk) 05:00, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
