I propose that the "single source" header be removed. For UK railway accidents of many years ago, the only single reliable source is the official Board of Trade accident report, which is also the source for subsequent books such as "Red for Danger". The accident report is correctly hyperlinked and the article is an effective summary of it. Therefore there is no value in requesting a separate source, nor page numbers, as the accident report itself is concise. The header has been in place for nearly 5 years and I suggest that it serves no useful purpose. Hyperman 42 (talk) 21:49, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
- I popped a couple of contemporary newspaper reports into the sources. They do not conflict with the official report but do add some local detail and statements made at the inquest which do not appear verbatim in the Board of Trade report. ANeilM (talk) 18:49, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
- I amended the article today as I discovered the location given for St Bedes Junction was wrong. It was an easy mistake to make as the junctions have similar characteristics and the one at Bede has since been removed. I have made reference to the book dealing with the accident as it explains the track layout changes. There are also maps and diagrams that give clues to the layout and changes over time.
- The summary account of the accident is sufficient although I would agree that the Board of Trade report is the definitive document. Bede Station did not exist at the time of said report. If it had, then it would have been a good reference point. The Railway Work Life and Death Project have also found a detailed report relating to union members represented at the enquiry.
