Google search controversy

[edit]

Robert Peston has since backtracked on whether it was Stanley O'Neal who made the takedown request (see the "UPDATE 22:50" at the bottom of the BBC article that started it all).[2] In line with WP:BLP, there should be some evidence that it actually was O'Neal who made this request. In any case, none of the sources has direct proof that it was him who made the request.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:43, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And it was written and added correctly as its alleged and the main story was about him. So it is more than fitting with the rules for inclusion. 216.81.94.75 (talk) 10:53, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
O'Neal denied knowledge of the takedown notification but more importantly, requests under Google Spain v AEPD and Mario Costeja González can be made only by persons who are EU citizens or EFTA nationals and he is an American. It now looks unlikely that O'Neal was responsible for this, but it is useful for the article to give an accurate version of what happened here, so that people do not get hold of the wrong end of the stick.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:44, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your reference does not say he can not ask for it to be taken down. Also many have dual citizenships let alone other ways to ask for removal. I removed that but left his denial. 216.81.94.75 (talk) 18:40, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It is a mystery why O'Neal would want to censor a 2007 BBC blog article when there is a mountain of criticism of him elsewhere. The new theory is that a comment by an alleged former Merrill Lynch employee underneath the article may be the cause.[3]--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 05:14, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
