Merger

I think, like Liane Cartman, this article ought to be merged into the main List of South Park families. Once again, there is no real-world information, no third-party (or any) references to establish their notability, and they have an even shorter article than she does. I know these are all the parents of some of the main characters, but do they really need separate articles for so little? Wilhelmina Will (talk) 07:15, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

WP:WEDONTNEEDIT isn't a valid reason for merging. And in regards to article size, I don't believe there's any policy stating that short articles are a problem, whereas there is one stating that longer articles should be forked. McJeff (talk) 23:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

The last name is "Scotch" not "Stotch". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.179.69.167 (talk) 03:09, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

first appearance?

if you look in the jesus and pals audience in the episode Fat Camp, you can clearly see stephen stotch. Shouldn't that count as his first appearance? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.3.45.72 (talk) 03:53, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Major cleanup/re-write

Re: this edit. Okay, here's what I did...

1. Expanded opening.
2. Removed tons of unsourced weasel wording, point of view, and original research/speculation;

  • "...is most notable for his harsh treatment of Butters..."
  • "His behaviour and haircut indicate a military past."
  • "Two interesting things to note..."
  • "Either one of them could be a middle name."
  • "...which is ironic because..."
  • "However, on his part, Herbert Garrison (a former closet homosexual) was homophobic before coming out, and showed homophobia after returning to being a man, so this may be common."
  • "Stephen can also be noted for his unusual, and seemingly phoney or forced, way of crying or weeping."

3. Removed info on Stephen being called "Scott" in "The Coon" (just watched this one again, Stephen is not in the episode and no one mentions the name "Scott")
4. Simplified/clarified bit about how he's been referred to as both "Stephen" and "Chris"
5. Removed random and scattered mentions of the examples of them being stern with and/or grounding Butters and wrote a new section to encompass all of these.
6. Removed unnecessary fancruft;

  • His car appears to be a Lexus RX300, as seen in a few episodes. (also OR)
  • Linda is the engineer on the Hippie Driller 2000.
  • Stephen goes on the expedition with Randy and Gerald.
  • Seen in one of the crowds running away from the giant guinea pigs like headless chickens. Stephen may have saved Randy's life by getting his attention. (also spec)

7. Consolidated remaining info from "list of appearances" into rest of article.
8. Re-arranged article to be consistent with other character articles for major South Park couples.
9. Uploaded images and gave each an individual their own infobox. Requested citation for ages.

10. Tagged for more "real world" info and expansion; even though previous edition claims that their treatment of Butters mocks how many parents resort to simply being overly strict in a misguided attempt to raise their children properly (which I believe it does), it had to be removed because it was an uncited personal statement. However, I would imagine there is a ton of stuff out there on the internet about the Stotches and this very thing, and would make for some excellent info that could potentially be sourced and used in this article.

As usual, please post suggestions, gripes, thoughts, etc. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 12:02, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
