Style - like an advertisement

• This article presently reads like a review or an advertisement by the tourism board. It would be useful if an editor familiar with the area could sort out facts and cut out any mentions of places not considered notable in the usual Wikipedia sense; also, there are several instances of peacock words ("peerless" and the like) that should be removed or replaced with more neutral wording. • I have edited the first paragraph, but the rest still needs doing. I will come back and do the rest in future. I think the reason it sounds a bit like a tourist guide is because there's not immediately obvious reason why it belongs in an encyclopedia. It sounds like the person who wrote it just added it because he or she liked it. I like it too but that isn't enough of a reason. London's a great city overall, but that's not why it's in the encyclopedia. I added the Ho Chi Minh reference as an example of the type of thing that may be helpful in grounding the article further. Old Dairy - Iconic?

• I'll have a go at clean-up when I find the time (if I'm not beaten to it). I'd like to just check now - would anyone object to me deleting the current picture? As far as I can tell from either the article as it stands or my current knowledge, The Old Dairy is not notable, and the front-on picture of it provides no meaningful illustration of the nature of Stroud Green Road. • I think it is notable because of the building. It is a listed building with panels illustrating the progress of milk from the cow to the consumer, in the 19th century. Unfortunately the photo doesn't show the panels.

• I think perhaps if there is a picture of the Old Dairy, it should actually show the, which was the Friern Manor dairy farm in around the 1840s, and because of the more general history of the area as a dairy farming one. There should probably also be a more general picture of the street showing its dimensions etc. Next time I am there on a nice day, I'll take a picture of it. • That would seem fair enough. However I should have added before that, of course, the Old Dairy isn't actually even on Stroud Green Road - it's over onto Crouch Hill, and I've just noticed that it's mentioned in the Crouch Hill article. You can argue that it's still associated in people's heads with Stroud Green Road, but I think this is a further argument against having a photo, or specific mention, in this article. • I agree that it's inappropriate for the Old Dairy to feature prominently in this article when it's actually on Crouch Hill. I have added a photograph of the pub's exterior to the Crouch Hill article. Russ London 10:35, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

• On that basis, as there's been no further objection, I've deleted the photo. If Marcus or anyone else could post a new photo that captures the essence of the road, that would seem great. Cmch83 18:16, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Borough boundaries

• The whole length of Stroud Green Road is the boundary between Islington to the south and Haringey to the north - the boundary only stops following the road once it's become Crouch Hill. This may have been different prior to the last time such boundaries were fiddled with, but I work for Haringey Council and there is a definitive, current map of the borough on my office wall! Transport

• I have deleted the reference to a plan to open a railway station on the Stroud Green Rd. None of the history on the Northern Heights railway mentions a plan to open an additional station at Stroud Green Rd; if there is any evidence of a plan to open an additional station (which I very much doubt) a reference should be included. The Stroud Green Station was on the bridge near the Stapleton Hall Rd.

London Transport Tag

Not sure why this has an LT tag - it's about a street. Buses run down it, but is that enough to include it as an LT article? hjuk (talk) 09:50, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Removing some material

I'm going to cut some of the stuff which has been tagged for a while out of this article ..

1. Famous residents - Johnny Rotten I know was brought up in the general Finsbury Park area, but we'd need some evidence that it was actually here; Ho Chi Minh is also pretty dubious - I can find some reference to this fact in a couple of online newspaper feature pieces, but I'm guessing those journalists simply pulled the information from here (no, it does happen). Some Google Books snippets suggest he lived somewhere in north London for a while, but again none are as specific as Stroud Green Road.
2. "Riviera" and "lined by trees". I don't know if these were here as jokes, but even if they weren't, there's no evidence for either. If the former is what locals call it in the pub, fine, but it's not verifiable for WP; as for the latter, it's hardly a grand tree-lined avenue is it?

I guess there's more that could be added or amended here, but I don't know enough and don't have the time ... --Nickhh (talk) 09:08, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
