The page in English is very incomplete. The building was built in the site of a former exhibition pavilion called Palácio de Cristal (Crystal Palace). The Palacio de Cristal was designed by an English architect, using glass, iron and granite (typical from Oporto). It had London's Crystal Palace as inspiration. The former Crystal Palace was demolished so as to build this sports and events pavilion. Secondly, this pavilion has been used for indoor sports as well as fairs. It is quite important to mention that for many years, the most popular indoor sport in Portugal was rink hockey. Rink hockey is little known outside the 5 countries that best play this sport: Spain, Argentina, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland, but in Portugal was very popular. It is still, albeit a little less. Rink Hockey was originally created in England as an alternative for ice hockey. It was brought to Portugal by English expats. England yet won two world titles in this sport. Then the popularity of this sport decreased dramatically in England but increased in ice lacking southern Europe. Rosa Mota pavilion was used for a rink hockey world championship, while Lisdon's Carlos Lopes pavilion was used for another one or two. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.214.215.35 (talk) 00:14, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
