Name of the square during Russian rule

Dear Steelmate, please stop blindly reverting my edits. The square was named after Paskevich who once served as the Viceroy of the Caucasus with his residence at Tbilisi and was bestowed with the title of Count Erivansky. There was a well-established practice to name the squares and streets in the viceregal capitals after Russian viceroys and governors. Your reference say nothing about the origin of the square's name, but only provides its literal (and imprecise) translation from Russian. What are you talking about? The title of Graf Erivansky was conferred upon Paskevich due to his capture of Erivan from Iranian army. The square in Tbilisi (which was a viceregal capital) was named after him. What is unblievable in this? Do you really think that a central square in the major provincial capital was named after Erivan which was nothing but a small fortified town in the 1820s? Renaming the article

According to this Wikipedia rule Wikipedia:Naming_conventions : "article naming should prefer what the greatest number of English speakers would most easily recognize..." I searched Google News, non of them have hits for "Tbilisi Tavisuplebis Moedani", but many hits for "Tbilisi, Freedom Square". Therefore think the article should be renamed to reflect name known to English speaking readers to "Freedom Square, Tbilisi". Any objections? Steelmate (talk) 18:26, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
