AOC

I feel the situation with Yoho and AOC should be its own section and not in the introduction. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamo58 (talkcontribs) 01:48, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

An entire section on that would be WP:UNDUE. Specifically, it is WP:RECENTISM. — Tartan357  (Talk) 05:38, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

AOC etc - we already have it under "tenure"

Hi everyone. We already have the drama with AOC mentioned here. No need to add it anywhere else, especially under political positions, which focuses on his political stance around specific subjects (i.e. the impeachment of Donald Trump, gay marriage, tax reform). Thank YOU! Missvain (talk) 17:58, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Cortez should be changed to Ocasio-Cortez. That is her correct name. 45.48.113.45 (talk) 18:10, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Was recorded and acknowledged calling a U.S. Congresswoman a "fucking bitch" on the the steps of the capital and then later used the fact that he has a wife and daughters as an excuse for his verbal assault. Jmid123 (talk) 05:10, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Danski454 (talk) 13:00, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Ted Yoho and his wife were on foodstamps early in their marriage.

I think this new addition should be added to the "personal" section

He discussed his experience in poverty and receiving foodstamps on the Congressional floor on July 22, 2020 in a widely seen apology video Alexberen (talk) 05:46, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Under Controversies section:

“In July 2020, Yoho got into a heated exchange with Congresswoman...”

By all accounts this was not “a heated exchange” rather Mr. Yoho verbally accosted Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez whose only response was to tell him he was acting inappropriately.

This was witnessed and independently verified by a journalist from the Hill. It is now a matter of record in Congress.

Calling abuse “a heated exchange” validates Mr Yoho’s behavior that day and diminishes the victim of his anger.

I ask that the sentence be changed to reflect the nature of his actions that day. “In July 2020, Yoho verbally accosted Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez ...” 2600:1700:5010:EEB0:9D60:E4E:5412:73BD (talk) 14:07, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

I thought the same thing when I first read this. I agree this should be changed to better reflect the incident. It was not a "heated exchange". --The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 16:08, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Not done for now: I think "heated exchange" is fine because it's appropriately dispassionate for a WP:BLP article, and the cited article in The Hill calls it that. That article also uses the word "accosted", but saying that would violate WP:BLPSTYLE because it's loaded language that amounts to a judgement of Yoho's character by Wikipedia. Calling it "abuse" of which Ocasio-Cortez was a "victim" is extreme and quite sensationalist. Furthermore, the current language does not pass moral judgement, as you seem to be implying. The claim that the current phrasing "validates" his behavior and "diminishes" Ocasio-Cortez is ridiculous, frankly. Nowhere does it say that Yoho behaved appropriately, or that Ocasio-Cortez overreacted. It is not our place to make those kinds of judgements. It's perfectly sufficient to quote what Yoho said; labeling it "abuse" or saying he "accosted" her would violate WP:NPOV since that characterization is made only by left-wing news sources. Especially in a WP:BLP article, we're best off simply describing the incident and various reactions to it. I'm marking this edit request as answered because a WP:CONSENSUS is needed before a change can be made. — Tartan357  (Talk) 05:14, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
CNN calls it a "tense exchange": [1], The Washington Post calls it a "heated conversation": [2], and The New York Times calls it a "confrontation": [3]. So, most sources seem to be describing the incident in terms that don't explicitly assign fault to either Yoho or Ocasio-Cortez. It's also worth noting that Yoho denied making the comments and denied that he "accosted" her in a FOX News interview: [4]. Since this is a WP:BLP article and the subject has denied this characterization, it should not be used unless it's dominant in secondary coverage, which it doesn't appear to be. — Tartan357  (Talk) 08:40, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Reference link 23 claims "Ian Swanson" wrote the linked article, but the author attached to the article in the link is "Mike Lillis"

Hopefully someone will modify this, because as it currently stands it makes zero sense.
