Tempe is named after Spark's farm

[edit]

Hi - just hoping to clear up something.

Tempe was the name A. B. Spark gave to his farm - the house came later. If you see a notice he placed in The Sydney Monitor in 1828 (top right of page):

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/page/4244631

"Mr. Spark's Farm, at Tempe, Cook's River"

And again in The Sydney Gazette two years later (fifth column):

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/2196011

"At Tempe, the seat of A. B. SPARK, Esq. on the banks of Cook's River"

You should see that both these references predate Tempe House. 1.43.41.96 (talk) 04:58, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
