I loved the novel, and appreciate of this critique. But... The summary does a singularly bad job of extracting any of the feel of the book. The author does a great job of extracting beauty from four corners of a field of grass; it is a pity that the reviewer cannot extract anything from, well, anything. To describe emotion with feeling is subjective, but in avoiding the subjective he/she has also ignored the author and the reader. expand the list of similar cases in the majors[edit]

Having just finished reading the book, it is still fresh in my memory that actually half a dozen major leaguers -- not just Blass, Knoblauch and Ankiel -- are mentioned in it, as having had similar difficulties. I don't see any obvious reason why Sasser, Wohlers, and Sax should not be mentioned in the article. All 6 are mentioned on the first page of Chapter 50 of the book. Pre-publication discussion[edit]

I am having trouble finding any coverage of the novel, or its author, before its publication, contradicting the claim that it received press before printing. I have checked The New Yorker, the New York Times, the WSJ, Vanity Fair, and the Atlantic, with no success. I am going to take down that claim soon if no one is aware of an article, or articles, published before Sep. 2011.--MainlyTwelve (talk) 04:34, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
