Request for (disambiguation) title
[edit]Can this page be titled to clarify that it is a disambiguation page? I just saw the definition when I looked at the page and accidentally chose it to link from another article. Seems like other disambiguation pages include "(disambiguation)" in the title. Popoki35 (talk) 06:12, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Popoki35: WP:NOPRIMARY:
If there are multiple topics (even just two) to which a given title might refer, but per the criteria at § Is there a primary topic? there is no primary topic, then the base name should lead the reader to the disambiguation page for the term.
- Per MOS:COMMONWORDS, when you add links, you need to
make sure that the links are directed to the correct articles
. - Tip: In the "Gadgets" tab of your preferences, you can enable "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange". I found that to be helpful.
- This does not always work, though. When there is a primary topic, links to it won't be highlighted by the gadget.
- Best practice is to check every link you add to make sure it leads to the intended article. Happy editing, Paradoctor (talk) 07:20, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
- I'm certainly not saying I didn't make a mistake. I was asking if this page could be titled consistently as I've seen other disambiguation pages titled. I may never link to this page again; I just thought it could be an improvement. If the answer is no, that's fine. I don't really care. Popoki35 (talk) 04:22, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- Again, please read WP:NOPRIMARY. This page is titled consistently with the rules for disambiguation pages. You realize that Doorman (disambiguation) does exist? Paradoctor (talk) 05:29, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- How lovely. I formally retract my request. I did try to read by the way, but there's a steep learning curve to even understand what some of these policies are talking about when you're a new editor. I apologize. Popoki35 (talk) 16:33, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- No need to apologize for anything, you did nothing wrong. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or anyone else. There is always the WP:TEAHOUSE. Happy editing, Paradoctor (talk) 17:30, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
