Elelphant And Rider

Haidt created the Elephant and RIder metaphor, IMHO. Buddha said the mind is like and elephant. But he does not use the elephant and rider metaphor.

Here is Haidt on pages 4: The image that I came up with for myself, as I marveled at my weakness, was that I was a rider on the back of an elephant.
