Did it win in 1988 the 1987 award?

In March 2007, the Oscars will be awarded. THen will we call them the 2007 or the 2006 Oscars?

I actually phoned Ms. Slesin a number of years ago to ask about a soundtrack listing, and she had no idea about the music in the film. I asked her if the film would be rereleased, especially on DVD, and she seemed utterly disinterested. Oscars/American Masters[edit]

This is incorrect:

"In 1987, the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.[2] Later, it was aired on the PBS series American Masters."

The film premiered on American Masters on September 28, 1987 (see the New York Times here; the date is replicated on IMDb). The Oscar ceremony referred to took place on April 11, 1988. (The citation for the current wording simply says the film won the 1987 Oscar. Which is true, but that was after its American Masters premiere).

I'm not sure of the precise origins of the film (PBS has acquired "theatrically-intended" documentaries for both American Masters and American Experience), but it was not uncommon for a television production to be nominated for Best Documentary. In fact, one of this film's co-nominees the same year was Eyes on the Prize, also a PBS series.

I have clarified the statement.
