Digital Effects
[edit]I recognize that in certain situations, digital effects are desirable over practical fog for health reasons, but always in the case of live theatre, and often in the case of film and television as well, digital isn't practical or possible. Absolute statements about using only CG and filters doesn't really serve anyone. DJSparky (talk) 06:12, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Nitrogen heavier than air
[edit]I removed the phrase in the Adverse Health Effects section about nitrogen being heavier than air. Air consists primarily of nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%), and oxygen is actually heavier (32 amu vs. 28 amu). However, it is true that at high enough concentrations (especially indoors) it's possible for it to displace enough oxygen to cause asphyxiation, so I left the rest of the section as it was. Jevav (talk) 20:20, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Nitrogen evaporated from liquid is "heavy" of course, because it is cold! At - 178° C, (boiling point), the density is more than double of the density at room temperature. If such gas collects in a narrow low lying space (a cellar, or below stage in the orchestra "ditch"), asphyxiation can occur. Its just like carbon dioxide in cellars where wine or beer is fermenting.
References
[edit]I'm planning on removing the "This Article does not cite and sources or references" tag because frankly, it does, and is significantly larger and more in-depth than when it was originally tagged. Could it still be improved? yes, especially the history section, but it's still coming along nicely. DJSparky (talk) 00:04, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
History section
[edit]The history section is very small, only one sentence. Can this be expanded? 193.141.37.130 (talk) 13:27, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Liquid Air
[edit]Although Liquid Air certainly sounds like a viable replacement for Liquid Nitrogen, I've not yet seen this in the industry, and the only references I could find on the web are copies of this wikipedia article on various other sites. Can someone find a reliable reference for this use of liquid air? GothicAwakening (talk) 03:38, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Liquid sysnthetic air
[edit]This section is absolute nonsense. Synthetic air (made by mixing purified oxygen and nitrogen) is very expensive and is used for very special purpose in analytic apparatus (eg. flame ionisation detectors) This air is sold as pressure gas in cylinders, never as a liquid. Because liquid air has some risks in handling (fire, explosion when mixed with certain combustibles) nobody will use it on stage, neither "standard" and absolutely not "synthetic". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.221.250.252 (talk) 12:31, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- Removed that section, I can't find any evidence of 'Liquid Air' ever having been used for stage-smoke effects. GothicAwakening (talk) 08:00, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
